The end of the card marking period is today. Grades are updated on Grade Book. Please check to see what grade your child has received this card marking period.

6th grade: We learned about Arabic greetings and culture this week. Page 1 in the Arabic packet should be complete. Students will continue to study numbers and colors in Arabic next week. Study study study this weekend! 🙂

Please make sure you are checking student planners daily to see what is due the following day we meet. Also, make sure you are on quizlet.com the day that we do not meet (since we meet every other day). Quizlet.com will verify that you are continuously studying. If you are not able to do so, please email me at jedrzem@dearbornschools.org to verify the day that you were able to log on.

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students took their unit 4 tests this week. They knew that today was the final day for a unit 4 retake during lunch. We started unit 5 on seasons, weather, and likes. We will continue unit 5 learning about how to use likes and how to use indirect articles in this manner next week.

Please make sure that quizlet.com is being completed daily. Check Grade Book to make sure points are being provided. Email me with any concerns. I check quizlet.com every evening to see student study progress.

8th grade Yearlong: Students completed a quiz on Friday about Ch. 2 Grammar 2. Students will have their summative chapter 2 test next Thursday. Study for this upcoming week!

The 2nd card marking period ends on December 2nd. Please make sure all missing work is handed in at least one week prior to that day.

6th grade: We learned about culture this week. The entire packet should be complete by now. B day played Jeopardy and will have their French test on Tuesday of next week. A day will play Jeopardy on Monday and will have their French test on the Monday that we return from Thanksgiving break. Study study study this weekend! 🙂

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students continued unit 4 this week. They learned about the differences between infinitive and conjugated verbs. We will continue to use these verbs and conjugate them. We are going to have some additional notes on Monday and students will begin preparing for their unit 4 tests.

8th grade Yearlong: Students completed a quiz on Friday about Ch. 2 Vocab 2. We will continue taking notes on Ch. 2 Grammar 2 this week. Students will have their next grammar quiz the Friday after Thanksgiving break.

6th grade: We learned about colors and body & family vocabulary this week. Pages that should be complete are 1-4. Students will be learning about culture and will start on Jeopardy review next week. One class will have their French test. The other class will take it the following week.

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students began unit 4 this week. They learned about classes and going places using the verbs: voy, vas, va. We will continue to use these verbs and conjugate them the following week (4.2 and 4.3 notes will be taken next week).

8th grade Yearlong: Students completed a quiz on Friday about Ch. 2 Grammar 1 skills. We will begin taking notes on Ch. 2 Vocab 2 notes this week. We will continue taking notes and completing activities on chapter 2 vocab 2 the following week. Students will have their Ch. 2 Vocab 2 quiz on Friday.

6th grade: We learned greetings, culture, and numbers this week. Students will learn about colors and body & family vocabulary next week. We will have our test the following week on French. Packets should be complete by then.

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students completed their unit 3 tests this week on time frame words, places, and the verb “ir” (I am going, you are going, he is going…). We begin unit 4 this week. Students will have 4.1 and 4.2 notes complete by the end of the week.

8th grade Yearlong: Students completed a quiz on Friday about adjectives, age, and birthdays (chapter 2 vocab 1). We will have a grammar quiz this upcoming Friday focusing on the verb “ser” which means “to be.” I am, you are, he is, we are, you all are, they are…It will also cover singular and plural sentences as well as question words. We will begin taking notes on Ch. 2 Vocab 2 notes this week.

O.L. Smith School: NO Halloween Costumes on Monday, October 31st

Dear Parents and Students,

This is just a reminder that Halloween costumes of any kind are NOT permitted at O.L. Smith on Halloween Day, Monday, October 31.

This also means that no masks or accessories that restrict movement or vision, prevent sitting at desks, or prevent participation in physical education class or obstruct movement in the hallways.

Students should not bring makeup or hair products to school. Anyone found with those items will have them confiscated. They will not be returned.

Gum and candy are not permitted in the building, as usual. Please save your trick-or treating for the evening.

Students are encouraged to wear orange and black to have a little fun and to get into the “spirit of the day”!

Please follow the school dress code, outlined in the student handbook. We will treat Monday as a regular school day where LEARNING is our focus and students are expected to fully participate in each class throughout the day.

6th grade: Students completed their German assessments this week. Grades will be input this weekend. Please make sure to check grades. We started learning French greetings with the B day class. We will continue to learn greetings, culture, and numbers next week. Pages that will be complete by the end of next week will be 1-2 and 5.

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students started learning about days, time frame words, and conjugating the verb “ir” which means “to be.” They should be able to say “I am going to the store. Where are you going? When do you go? I go on Monday.” We will have our unit 2 test at the end of next week.

8th grade Yearlong: Students have been learning about adjectives, age, and birthdays (chapter 2 vocab 1). They have completed a variety of vocabulary notes. Please make sure they are studying daily. They completed a quiz on Puerto Rico today, and they will have their chapter 2 vocab 1 quiz next Friday. It will cover adjectives, age, and birthdays. 6th grade: Students learned about colors, culture, family and body vocabulary. The family projects are due on Monday and Tuesday of next week (depending on if your student has the class on A or B day). Please make sure to check grades. Homework that should be complete: pages 1-7. We will have our German test on Wednesday (B day) and Thursday (A day) of this upcoming week. We will start French greetings on Friday.

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students completed their unit 2 test on Friday, October 17th. If they need to take a retake, the forms are due on Wednesday and the retake will be during lunch on Friday, October 28th. We will be learning about days of the week, places and how to conjugate the verb: ser.

8th grade Yearlong: Students completed their chapter 1 test on Tuesday. We have been learning about the culture of Puerto Rico this week. The quiz on Puerto Rico will be on Friday, October 28th. We will be learning how to describe people, state the age, and state the birthday this week.

6th grade: Students have learned their German number, days and months, and B day has learned colors this week. Please make sure to check grades. Homework that should be complete: pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 (colors for B day).

7th grade & 8th grade Semester Conversational Spanish: Students completed their unit 1 test on Monday, October 10th. They learned about colors, shapes, animals and culture this week.

8th grade Yearlong: Students learned about ser, punctuation, and had their quiz on chapter 1 grammar 2. We will be starting chapter 2 after the chapter test on Tuesday.
