A marvelous Monday!

Hello Families!

I hope you all enjoyed a lovely weekend and a beautiful Mother’s Day! The children worked so hard on your surprises at school!

Take a look at some of the awesome things we did on our marvelous Monday!

We worked on opinion writing pieces about why we want a special toy.
We are working on using letters and words to express our ideas in writing.
We went to the 2nd grade store of handmade goods! We each spent money to buy something we want!
We are pointing to show were in the room we can look to find the letter Aa!

Today begins the ABC Countdown to the last day of school! Both groups did something for the letter A! Group B drew their favorite animal and shared! Group A did a Nearpod for the letter Aa! We wrote the letter Aa, drew what begins with letter Aa and were artists when we made our windsocks! Tomorrow we will have letter Bb day!!!

We drew something that begins with the letter Aa while participating with Nearpod!
We reviewed sight words as we looked for them in our Benchmark poem! We used our “super-duper pretend binoculars”! We also used our magnetic letters to spell the words we were looking for within the text.

Another Thankful Thursday in Young 5s!

Hello Families!

We had such a wonderful day together! We had picture day at Oakman School for you Group A! Tomorrow will be picture day for Group B! Please remember to send your child’s picture form completed with the exact payment for your order. If you do not want to order pictures, it is no problem at all. However, your child will still be getting their picture taken.

Of course we started our day off with sharing what we are thankful for! The students had such sweet responses. Many replied that they are thankful for one of the classmates in the room and mentioned them by name! I love that they are building friendships and know you do too! I am thankful for these connections!

Take a look at a few of the super things we did today!

We practiced sound spelling with our Benchmark work.
We wrote more opinions about why our mom is the best!
We completed our Mother’s Day surprise!

Hello Families!

Please check out the following important reminders:

Group A has picture day tomorrow! Group B has picture day Friday! Please come dressed in your best with your beautiful smiles! Also, please be sure to send your completed picture form with the exact payment.

School picture day is tomorrow for Group A and Friday for Group B!

In addition to bringing the completed picture form back this week, please send in the summer school registration form! I need those by Friday! Oakman Summer School is for EVERYONE!!! Yay!!!

Another Terrific Tuesday in Young 5s

Hello Families!

We had another Terrific Tuesday!!! Take a look at some of the terrific things we did today!

Also, I sent home the summer school info with Group B today along with their picture forms for Friday!

Group A will have picture day on Thursday!!! Please be sure to send the completed picture form back to school!

Tomorrow, the lovely Ms. Zahraa will be joining us for our nutrition talk at 1:30 on Zoom! Please take a look at the information below! There will also be a story time with LAHC Thursday at 4:00. This is in honor of Children’s Book Week!

We began our opinion writing pieces about why our mom is the best!
We practiced ways to make 10 when we know we have 4. (4+6=10)
We used coffee filters, markers, and water to create the beginning of our Mother’s Day surprise!
We observed the physical changes to the coffee filters when we squirted them with water. The colors grew…..just like we do with the love and care from our moms and dads!
Mrs. Hansen came with the library cart and we got new books! She also read a funny story to us called Alligator Baby by R. Munsch.
We played a Nearpod game with our dry erase boards! We identified beginning and ending sounds.

Thank you for all you do!!! I will see you all on Zoom tomorrow!!!! And….one more thing….

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and I want to take a moment to recognize all of you for the hard work and dedication you all have towards being your child’s teachers at home!!! You are their most important teacher and the lessons they will learn from you will last forever in their beautiful hearts and minds! (Many of my most important lessons learned about life and love I learned from my amazing parents!) So, once again, from the bottom of my heart…. thank you for all you do! Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! I appreciate each one of you!!

Another Marvelous Monday!

Hello Families!

We had a marvelous Monday in Young 5s today!

We read our Benchmark poem and identified rhyming words! We played a Nearpod game where we identified beginning and ending sounds! We even drew and labeled people who help in our communities! And…..so much more! Please take a look!

We began an opinion writing piece about our moms!!!
We used squirt bottles to create something lovely for our moms!
We observed the colorful changes that happened to our coffee filters when they get wet!
We worked very hard on creating colorful designs!
We worked on a story problem where we practice finding what makes 10!

Summer School for Everyone!

Hello Families,

TODAY or TOMORROW your child will be bringing home a Summer School registration form in their folder. We are really happy to be able to offer Summer School to all students!

We have also attached a QR code below for those who would like to register online. Oakman staff are excited for this year’s summer program and look forward to providing academic and social-emotional enrichment for our students. Students will have daily hands-on learning opportunities and ALL students are welcome, regardless of their academic standing.

Dates: June 23 to August 13, 2021

Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (4 days/week)

Time: 9:00 – 2:00pm or 9:00 – 5:00pm

Please be sure to complete the registration form (paper or online) by Friday, May 7th.

Another Thankful Thursday in Young 5s

Hello Families!

I am so thankful or another wonderful Thursday with my students.

Take a look at some of the awesome things we did today!

We made alligator mouths to play with as we compare numbers and quantities with greater than, less than, and equal.
We used 2D shapes to create our alligator mouths.
We played a Nearpod game for the teen numbers! We wrote the teen numbers to tell how many was on the screen (Group of ten and some extra ones)
We sorted pictures of needs and wants.
We practiced the letter Zz and brainstormed words that begin with the letter Zz.
We drew and labeled what we wished to have in our box after reading the Benchmark story “The Two Boxes”.
We circled the letters Zz and Xx in our Benchmark story!

Picture Day at school will be May 6 (Group A) and May 7th (Group B). I will be sending home the forms Monday and Tuesday of next week. PLEASE be sure these are filled out completely for your child’s picture day!

A Terrific Tuesday!

Hello Families!

We had another terrific Tuesday in Young 5s! Take a look at some of the terrific things we did! We began Unit 9 in Benchmark which focuses on Needs and Wants and why we make choices.

We began a new personal narrative about a time we had fun outside during a season of our choosing.
We worked on creating pictoral representations for the teen numbers.
We participated in a Nearpod activity about Needs and Wants. We played I Spy to look for items in the picture that are a want and then items in the picture that are a need.
This friend says a house is a need! (Shelter)
The children created lanterns to decorate their houses for Ramadan.
We talked about the different shapes and designs the children drew on their lanterns,
We practiced mixing and fixing the sight word to!
We practiced identifying the letter Xx and its sound as well as its sound at the end of words like six and fox. We made uppercase and lowercase letter X with playdough.

Another Marvelous Monday!

Hello Families!

We had a marvelous Monday! Take a look at some the marvelous things we did! In addition to these fun activities, we started Unit 9 in Benchmark. This unit focuses on the question; Why do we make choices? as well as Needs and Wants! Needs are things we have to have to stay healthy and living. (ex. water, shelter) Wants are things we would like to have (ex. jewelry, pets)

We made lanterns to decorate our houses for Ramadan!
We wrote the beginning and middle of our next personal narrative to tell about a time we had fun outside during one of the four seasons. This friend is writing about time when he raked leaves and jumped in the pile with his family during the fall!
We practiced representing teen numbers by drawing a picture! Ex.. 14 is one group of 10 and 4 extra ones.
We did another Nearpod activity as a class about needs and wants! We played I spy on Nearpod and drew something we saw that is a need This friend drew a house.
We played I Spy on Nearpod and looked for something to draw that is a want. This friend drew am iPad.

We practiced making the letter Xx with playdough and saying the sound Xx makes.
We talked about what it means to make a choice. We took turns with our Peanut Butter and Jelly partners telling about a time we had to make a choice.

Happy Earth Day!

Hello Families!

Happy Earth Day to all of you!! We love our beautiful planet Earth! Take a look at some of the amazing things Group A did today!

we practiced the letter Qq! We made the letter Qq with playdough and brainstormed words that begin with the letter Qq. (ex. quilt, quarter)
We celebrated Earth Day!
We practiced directionality while reading together. We also circled all of the letter Qqs in our Benchmark work.
We reused recyclable items and turned them in to something new to help get the landfills from overflowing! We love helping Earth!
This friend worked hard to reuse a plastic jug. She turned it into a shaker!
We made bird feeders as we practiced counting and naming the teen numbers. The bird feeders are made with Cheerios and pipe cleaner. Please help your child hang these up in your yard for the birds!
