Wednesday 3/18

Good Morning Students,

Remember to check your school email and my iBlog daily! Please reach out to your classmates and be sure that they are checking the iBlog.

I am noticing that many students have not accessed the i-Ready Portal. Please go to Clever, sign in, and complete at least two lessons today. I spoke with several students over email and over the phone in the last two days, and many of those students still have not been on line. It is imperative that students are working from home to demonstrate that learning is still happening, even though we are not physically in school.

I’d like your main focus today to be the i-Ready lessons and quizzes. 6 of them are due Friday and are going in the Gradebook as Quiz Points. Khan and IXL assignments are also due at the end of the week.

Please reach out with your questions. Stay safe and healthy!

Tuesday 3/17

Please spend some time today working on your i-Ready though Clever lessons in your path. If you are struggling with something, please send me a message and I will help you! The system will flag that you are struggling if you are continuously submitting incorrect responses. Also, please reach out if you are having a hard time with any Khan or IXL. I really want you to understand the material so that we can move forward with some new topics next week. If there is a specific assignment that you would like more information on, I will post notes about it to my Google Classroom.

Thank you for your dedication to your education!!

Chromebooks for Families In Need: If your family does not have access to a computer, please send an email to your first hour teacher. The District is working on a solution for these families. More information on this to come.

Update Regarding Breakfast and Lunch for Families:

Dearborn Schools offering free breakfast and lunch pickup for students at six sites

Dearborn Public Schools is offering free pickup lunch and breakfast for students while school is closed for the mandatory shut down over the next three weeks.

Families will be able to stop in and pick up a bag with both breakfast and lunch for each child in the family.  Pickups will run daily from 10 a.m. to noon starting tomorrow, March 17 at Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn high schools, McCollough-Unis, Salina Intermediate, and Woodworth Middle School.

Signage at each site will direct parents and students where to enter the building. Food will be near entrances to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.

Please note, meals are available to anyone age 18 and younger.  Students do not need to be present, and the Dearborn School student does not need to attend at that building.  A designated person can collect meals for multiple children.  Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.

The program will allow the District’s 20,700 students to continue to have access to healthy food.  Gov. Gretchen Whitmer last week ordered all Michigan schools closed from March 16 through April 3 to slow the spread of novel coronavirus and cases of COVID-19.  Dearborn Schools is scheduled for spring break April 6 to 10, so school will not resume in the District until April 13.

The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.

Superintendent Glenn Maleyko praised the District’s food service team for quickly implementing this drastic change in service to meet the needs of families.

“We appreciate the patience of our families and community as we all try to adjust to this sudden change from closing schools,” Dr. Maleyko said.  “More than three quarters of our students qualify for free or reduced priced school meals.  We realize this food is important to our families, many of whom may be facing additional financial hardships from the sudden economic changes related to COVID-19.”

Check the Dearborn Public Schools website at www.dearbornschools.org for any updates or changes to the meal program or for other issues regarding the school closure.

COVID-19 Closure Info

Hello Students and Families,

During this time, it is my goal to continue to teach the curriculum. Each day, I will be posting information and assignments to help make sure the students meet the Common Core State Standards for 6th grade math. Furthermore, I will be holding students accountable by grading online work and calling home for students that are not completing their work. Here is a suggested weekly schedule:

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INTERNET: Comcast is offering free internet to our students and families during this time. Please visit this link to access: https://www.internetessentials.com/covid19

For now, the best way to get in contact with me is through email. I have been receiving many emails concerning grades. My grandfather passed away yesterday and our family is very devastated by this loss. I ask that you please be patient with me as I am working as fast as I can, but I will also have family obligations this week.

Finally, please reach out to your fellow classmates so that nobody misses any information.

Thank you for your understanding and dedication to educational excellence during these uncertain times. Stay healthy!

3/12

Finish Practice book pages as study guide- try your best. We will go over the solutions tomorrow. Finish Khan Academy assignments.

3/4- Homework for the next few weeks

I assigned the homework for lessons 12, 13, 14, and 15 on Khan Academy. About half of it is due this Friday and the other half is due next Friday. Please get a head start on these assignments so we can iron out any misconceptions in class before the due dates.

The corresponding IXL assignments for these lessons will be due at the end of March.
