Why are we not allowed to carry our backpacks to our classes? What if we don’t have time to go back to our lockers after class? Has there ever been past issues with this situation? Those are some questions students speculate. With these questions still hovering over our heads.
If we would be able to carry our backpacks, we wouldn’t be late for class and would have a chance to go to the restroom and drink water from the water fountain instead. However, we are not allowed to do so, we may be late for class and have to rush through to our lockers to grab our stuff.
A Unis MIddle School student, Yarah Ghandour, states that, “Using backpacks will keep all of our stuff together and save us time.” Student Zeinab Dabaja stated.“ I do not believe there will be an issue that will be big enough to impact the school, so in my opinion, I think backpacks in the halls is a great idea.”
Although it would be useful to carry backpacks, it is also dangerous. According to Mr.Blessing, A Unis Middle school assistant principal,”I think it all comes down to that it is a matter of safety.When kids carry backpacks in the hallways, they bring things that they shouldn’t bring to school. Carrying backpacks also clutters classrooms and that is why we give students lockers. This situation has to do with past issues, there has not been any recent issues with carrying backpacks to classes.”
Mrs. Issa had informed me that,”This issue of backpacks in the hallways began in Columbine High School 17 years ago. Two students carrying backpacks were hiding guns in them. They murdered thirteen people and injured twenty-four. They then both committed suicide.” This is probably one of the main reasons that had influenced schools to not allow backpacks in the hallways at school.
Many people agree that safety is the main issue,on the other hand, I think backpacks will help us a lot through the halls and will solve some tardiness issues. If we got to use our backpacks, we would not need to get things we forget in our lockers. For example if we are swimming in gym, and we finish a little late, we would have to go back to our lockers and get our stuff. That would result in a tardy.
However, if we had our stuff with us we would just walk straight to class. The more tardies we get, the more infractions we will end up with. The more infractions we have will result it the students getting punished because we could end up with suspensions, detentions etc. We all know teachers present their objectives in the beginning of class and if we are tardy we will not know the objectives for our lesson.
Although there are many good arguments that we should not carrying backpacks to school, Other people argue that backpacks should be carried in the hallways.It will solve issues,make school easier and help us in many ways.

I think we should curry our backpacks to classes because if we put it in our lockers or on the floor someone might go in your locker and steal something like money, paperwork or other stuff. Carrying our backpacks will help us get in class one time and one of my cousin said that she dose not have a locker in her school and she carry all the time and it much easier for her.
This was really interesting but I believe students shouldn’t be allowed to take their backpacks with them to classes because what if one person forgets their backpack and somebody else takes it or steals the stuff in it . And what if they’re put on the floor and one person trips and falls and gets really injured not safe. Like what was told in the story kids hide guns and weapons in the backpacks.

I used to want to carry backpacks and put them in the hallway, but after reading this article, I realized that it is very unsafe. It would’ve nice to carry them and not have to go to your locker, but somtimes people can carry very dangerous stuff like knifes, guns or drugs.

I believe in this because carrying backpacks can lead to some other stuff. Students will try to bring weapons and/or thing that shouldnt be touched or brought to school. This can lead to serious stuff and a lot of problems.
I agree students shouldn’t be holding around backpacks becauce as the article says what if students carried guns in their backpacks. What if their was a lockdown and the students had their backpacks in class and then one of the students pulls out a gun from thier back pack? what would you do then? Jump out the window?

I agree kids should not be allowed to carry backpacks around the school. Safety is really important as the repeatedly say in the passage. In my opinion, I believe backpacks are unsafe to carry because they start to crowd up the halls and classes then kids receive tardies and start to trip which is”nt safe.
I also agree with this idea also. I do so because many people are always tardy because their lockers can be all the way down the hall from the class they have next. If many people are concerned with the students bringing weapons in their backpacks, then they should have a sensor on top of every door so when a student walks in and they have a weapon, the sensor will go off.

Every school has pros and cons, including our school. One of our cons are the school doesn’t allow us to have our backpacks. I believe we should be able to have our backpacks with us because there are many situations were we are late and we simply don’t have time to stop by at our lockers and get our stuff, especially when our lockers are isolated and our classes are on opposite ends of the school. Also, Fordson High School allows students to have their backpacks with them in class. Overall, this story has strong points and it’s very persuasive.
I think we should be able to carry backpacks in school because it would save us a lot of time in between classes.

I agree That backpacks should be off for safety. I think it is not safe to wear backpacks in the hall because you might trip and fall and the backpack will fall with you, so the fall can be worse with a backpack on instead of a backpack off.
AbdulRahman Nuseibeh 1st hour- I think that backpacks should not be carried around in the hallway, mainly for the reason that students should have safety, and not carry there backpacks around school. I also think this, because when Mrs.Issa said, that 17 years ago, 2 students had there backpacks on them, and they killed people, and injured others. This is mostly why backpacks are not allowed to be carried in the building hallways, and we also have lockers to secure our supplies.
I agree first because of everyones safety. second is because people can be in the hallways and steal if a teacher catches them they can say that the backpack is there’s. Nasser Ahmed 1st hour
I think students should be allowed to carry backpacks in hallways. First of all shooting and stealing don’t happen just because of backpacks. I don’t think not letting students carry around backpacks will prevent things like that from happening. It would save us time and we won’t forget our stuff in our lockers. We don’t have to carry them around all the time, maybe just when we are in a rush or have a lot of stuff to carry.
