Competition Affecting Students

Have you ever wondered about competition affecting you in any way? Good or bad? Concordia University students have done studies showing that competition has a great affect on students, “children face the real-world”, and,”Children can still work in teams, but compete against other teams: It can be a great way to “enliven the classroom environment.”

I have interviewed Yakeen Bazzi, an 8th grade middle school student. She states that she is very competitive, she just finished her volleyball season with a championship win. “I am very competitive in both sports and education. It really depends, its what people are interested in.” There are many perspectives on competition. ” I believe competition has a great affect on me, in a good way. It motivates me to do better”. Studies have also shown that students who are competitive are most likely to accomplish there goals much faster, “Without competition I wouldn’t be able to accomplish what I have accomplished.”

I have also interviewed an 8th grade middle school student, Abass Hazime. Once on the football team, and finished his season with a 2nd place win. “I feel like I’m more competitive in both education and sports, they are both important to me.” Competition also has a good affect to him as well, “Competition affects me in a good way, it helps me surpass most of my friends.” He states, “Its needed for me to accomplish my goals I have for right now, and me being very competitive, helps me not to back down.”

“Students who are extremely competitive and trying to push themselves achieve success.” A statement from one of Unis Middle School’s gym teacher, Kathleen Barker. “students do succeed in their studies. One reason would be because they want to be number one at all things, not just “on the court.” Another idea to keep in mind is the fact that sometimes our toughest competitors are our very selves. That means some students who are extremely competitive and are trying to push themselves to achieve success.” Mrs. Barker believes, once again, that students competition can affect students in both education and sports in a good way, and can help them drive to success, helping students accomplish their goals.

Competition affects all of us is a great way. We can be competitive at both sports and education, depends in what your interested. We can accomplish our goals and drive to success because of this one factor we have, competition.

  1. Competition is not good being you loose self confidence. I agree with students could loose their confidence in education. I feel like is my school is full of competition. For example when a student asks another student what you got on your nwea score the student that asked the question will want to have a competition against the other student which is not good.
