I have extended the final project due date to the end of this week. There are many reasons I did this but the main reason is related to your grade.
You will be graded for the work you complete online in your Quarter 4 grade. Before today there was uncertain information available about what “counts” and what “doesn’t count.”
This counts.
With that being said, I wanted to make sure everyone has an enormous amount of time to get this project done. If you have not completed it, you need to log on to Google Classroom and get it done. You have already had two weeks to work on it, and now you have one more.
There are many resources posted to help you. The most important thing is the slideshow called “Final Project Directions.” This tells you exactly what to put in your slideshow and even gives you a sample of how to start off. You can also check the Classroom Stream where I posted a video of myself teaching you how to complete the assignment using Screencastify. I go through all of the materials and explain as I go. USE IT!
Those of you finished with that and ready to move on, thank you for your patience. I didn’t want to put work online until I was sure what Mrs. Hassan wanted us doing with online learning for the rest of the year. Later tonight I will post assignments that you will have until Friday to complete.
If you do not have a Chromebook or WiFi internet to do your assignments on, please e-mail me right away. Not all of these assignments can be completed on a phone or tablet so I need to know for my documentation if you do not have technology available.
I will post this week’s assignments tonight. I wanted to wait until after I have met with the other teachers in the building & Mrs. Hassan on our virtual staff meeting today.
For now, please continue to submit your projects that were due last night. You can still turn in all your missing online work. I accept it late just like I do in class. ๐
Greetings everyone! I hope Spring Break is treating you well!
I had a chance to go through everyone’s responses for the seismic noise graph, pictured below:
Recall that in the question, it was defined that seismic noise is the vibration picked up on a seismogram that comes from human activity like daily car traffic. You were asked to identify two patterns you noticed in the data. Some of the patterns identified by students include:
The data decreases over time.
The data decreases more after the closure and lockdown.
The line goes up and down in a zig-zag.
The low parts of the zig-zag fall on weekends.
The higher points of the zig-zag tend to be early in the week, such as Monday.
After the lock down, the highest points on the graph are at the same amount of displacement, or lower than the lowest parts of the graph when traffic was “normal.”
Overall, GREAT JOB everyone! This was a quick-and-easy 5 point assignment. As we move forward, I will try to mix these in more than the longer assignments I’ve been giving. I don’t want anybody to feel overwhelmed. ๐
Don’t forget that if you are still working on your unit project, the due date on it is April 12th! I included in the directions that I don’t expect you to work during Spring Break, but that if you couldn’t or didn’t want to work on it last week, this week is available for you to work on it as well. In any case, please turn it in before the due date. ๐
I will send this last bit out over e-mail and Google Classroom. I decided that since we can’t be in the classroom to present our Google Slides, I will give a special prize to any student that does a Screencast or a video presentation of their slides and sends it to me! There are a few rules if you would like to participate in it, but remember it is optional anyway ๐ Rules:
Dress professionally for this. At the very minimum, you should be dressed how you normally dress for school. Sorry, but no pajamas! If you showed up to a presentation for work in your pajamas, your boss would send you home. Use it as an excuse to get ready for a day. Without that in our routine, a lot of us are feeling lost!
Please keep your video under 5 minutes. Do not add in any extra “stuff” like TikTok dances or introductions to your family / cats / whatever. Just you and your slides. Thanks!
Your slides must be visible in the video, and so must you. If you are doing a screencast, choose a program that will record video of you and put you over the slides in the corner like a streamer does. If you are video taping yourself with your phone, pull up the slides on a device (computer, tablet, Chromebook, whatever) and show it as you present.
Students are working on their final project for Unit 8.6. There is not much to it except there are a lot of directions. Consider watching the screencast video I posted with your child and talking with them about what needs to be in their slideshow. They have until April 12th to turn this project in for full credit. Some students were able to finish the whole project in a couple of hours on day 1, so there is no reason your child should be waiting until Spring Break to work on this project… however the time is there & available if you need it.

Quarter 3 Report Card grades are in and finalized. They include all assignments through the Earthquake Lab we did before the shutdown. Some assignments were reserved for Quarter 4 because their due dates were impacted by the school shutdown. All Online Learning assignments will be reserved for quarter 4 as well.
Please do not ask me to accept any late work for Quarter 3. The original late work deadline was March 20th and I extended it to March 25th to accommodate people trying to do it or submit it electronically. No further late work will be accepted, and grades for Quarter 3 are final. Thank you!
Here is the schedule for Friday’s Google Hangouts. I set up 1-hour times for each class period starting at noon and going for 1 hour with a short break for me to get up and stretch in between.
You are not required to come to the Google Hangouts but if you are available and you want to check in with me and some people from class please consider joining us! You can join from your e-mail or your phone.
When I joined a Hangouts with the teachers on Monday, my browser asked me for permission to use my microphone and my webcam. If you are not comfortable with the webcam you can turn it off and use the chat function. We’re just playing around with this for now to see if it’s something I’d like to use more with Online Learning. ๐
Tornado sirens all across Michigan will be tested today at 1pm. Do not be alarmed. Use the time to check out your basement and make sure there is a safe place to duck for cover in the event of a tornado.
Quiz is due tomorrow! Third hour is still in the lead. Check Google Classroom stream in about an hour for a list of names of who needs to be gently encouraged to do their quiz. ๐ I do not want to post names publicly on the iBlog. Thank you!
