Here is a message from Mrs. Hassan regarding items left in lockers!
We hope this post finds all of you in good health! We wanted to share with you our plans on distributing your child’s personal items from their lockers. Our staff will collect, label, and bag your child’s personal belongings left in their school locker. We have set schedules in place for distribution. Distribution of student personal items will be off of Hubbard St. at door number # 7. This will be one way traffic only on Hubbard facing Greenfield just like we did for chromebooks. Please see the link to the document for our schedule. Schedule : https://docs.google.com/document/d/16Ad9EEzMBzUf9dVzfep_YhW0KjKy0nXRiRVUxcfi7Hc/edit?usp=sharing
Due to all of the severe rainfall we have been receiving, Sanford Dam and Smallwood Dam near Midland, Michigan (see map) failed and could not hold back the water. See the following pictures for examples of the impact some Michiganders are dealing with right now. Familes in the affected areas have been asked to evacuate their homes and relocate temporarily to higher ground.

I uploaded 4 videos to the Classwork tab that can be used on this week’s assignment as needed. They are optional to watch but include me explaining things the way I would in class.
The main screencast is where I navigate through the resources for this week and explain what to do for both assignments.
There are 4 separate screencasts this week where I read the reading passages aloud and explain them. I made them separate so that the main video wouldn’t get too long and so that you can find them easier. You can watch only the ones you need, all of them, or none of them. They are just there if you need the deeper explanations or the read aloud. 🙂
Students really struggled with the system models last week… and that’s okay! They’re difficult! Modeling is a challenge in the classroom with classmates and teachers around to help… add in the technology component and it can get really difficult.
I decided to post a few examples (anonymous from my 1st hour) that did a pretty good job on their models. I post student work in my classroom usually and other students reference it to help them when they are stuck… I don’t see why I can’t do the same thing online. However, I am not posting their answers to the last slide or their answers to the Venus model on Online Assignment #15. Can’t give it all away 🙂
Hello! Some of you have reached out to me about grading last week’s work. I have been doing pretty good at grading everything quickly for you all but honestly assignment #12 is exhausting to grade. There are tons of questions and lots of people did not understand or need feedback on their answers. Any time I have to stop and leave comments on an assignment it makes grading take so much longer. I apologize that it is taking longer than normal to get this one back to you! I am getting through them though, I promise. 🙂
Assignments #14-15 are due today. Lots of people are confused. I explained the assignments twice for you under the classwork tab AND I gave you a cheat sheet here on my iBlog. Please use these resources to finish your assignment!
A lot of people are still struggling with this week’s assignment. I know that modeling and creating system models is hard… and being in an online environment makes it so much more difficult.
I made the following series of images to help those of you who are struggling. If you are having trouble, you can simply write which one of these options matches the time period for each slide you have to do.
Then tell me which thermometer would match up to that diagram.
Please make sure to watch the video called “Assignment How To” first.
Then do these two assignments in order. Assignment #14 has to be done first so that you get a full understanding of how to complete the system models of the environment & energy.
Assignment #15, you are doing the same thing but thinking about Venus’s very thick atmosphere instead of Earth’s, and how it impacts the temperature on Venus.
You will have to pay close attention to the key of the assignment because the slides look the same but when you have them done they will look different.
E-mail or comment to me if you need help, but please please please watch the video I provided FIRST!!!
There has been an increase recently in cheating incidents. Please be reminded that I didn’t accept copied work in class and I won’t accept copied work online. I don’t catch every single incident but when I do, I get parents and the admin team involved. Plagiarism and copying later in life comes with legal and financial consequences, so we should not be forming those habits in middle school.
It is not always easy to catch cheating because I have 135 copies of every assignment to read through and I do it quickly. Plus, the right answer can only be described so many ways, so all of the answers start to sound alike anyway. Want to know something funny? Most cheating students get caught because they choose to cheat off of friends that are not writing the correct answers. If I see the same ridiculous and obviously wrong answer more than once, that strongly suggests copying.
And then all there is to do is to check edit and file permissions on Google Classroom. Google keeps track of EVERYTHING. The hard part about busting cheaters isn’t proving what they have done – once I get the gut feeling it is VERY easy to confirm cheating. Please stop. It takes less time to just DO the assignment.
