Cheating

Good morning everyone!

There has been an increase recently in cheating incidents. Please be reminded that I didn’t accept copied work in class and I won’t accept copied work online. I don’t catch every single incident but when I do, I get parents and the admin team involved. Plagiarism and copying later in life comes with legal and financial consequences, so we should not be forming those habits in middle school.

It is not always easy to catch cheating because I have 135 copies of every assignment to read through and I do it quickly. Plus, the right answer can only be described so many ways, so all of the answers start to sound alike anyway. Want to know something funny? Most cheating students get caught because they choose to cheat off of friends that are not writing the correct answers. If I see the same ridiculous and obviously wrong answer more than once, that strongly suggests copying.

And then all there is to do is to check edit and file permissions on Google Classroom. Google keeps track of EVERYTHING. The hard part about busting cheaters isn’t proving what they have done – once I get the gut feeling it is VERY easy to confirm cheating. Please stop. It takes less time to just DO the assignment.
