Developing Vocabulary

Here are the vocab definitions we presented in class today to develop the academic vocabulary of the concept we have been covering (complicated systems):

VOCAB TAB, PAGE #1

System: A group of related parts that make up a whole and can carry out functions its individual parts cannot

System model: A representation of systems and their interactions, such as inputs, processes, and outputs, and the flow of energy, matter, and information within systems

Subsystem: Within a large system, there may be smaller systems that each carry out a task. Each subsystem works together to make up the system.

Components: All the parts needed to explain the phenomenon, problem, or process

System boundary: System boundaries decide which components are within your system versus which are part of the outside environment

Inputs: The parts that enter the system from outside

Outputs: The parts that leave the system
