Week of October 14th

Reading: Practice retelling short stories with a key focus on sequencing. We will also explore and learn about pumpkins.

Writing We are learning about opinion writing. We will write
about pumpkins using sight words we have learned so far. The
sentence stem used will be: I like (color) pumpkins.

Language Arts-Phonics: Letters Pp, Ss correct formation (always start from the top and write down), the sound and words that begin with that sound; Phonemic Awareness: Syllables, rhymes Sight word: a,
the (review: I, can, see, like)

Math: We will be counting numbers 0-10, we will practice
writing numbers 0-10 correctly. We will discuss one less and
one less more within 0-10.

Science: We will continue to learn about being a scientist.
We will review the 5 senses and carry out an investigation to
taste, smell, touch, hear, and sight. Students will have an
opportunity to guess their answers and check their responses.

Week of October 7th

Reading: Practice retelling stories with a key focus on beginning and end
of a story. We will listen to stories titled: Under the apple tree;
The apple pie tree; Amelia Bedelia’s first apple pie; Johnny
Appleseed; Apples Apples Apples.

Writing: We are learning about narrative writing. We will
write about going to recess with a beginning, middle and end
using pictures and labeling.

Language Arts: Phonics: Letters Kk, Gg- correct formation (always start from the top and write down), the sound and words that begin with
that sound; Phonemic Awareness: Syllables, rhymes Sight word: like, (review: I, can, see)

Math: We will be counting numbers 0-10, we will practice
writing numbers 0-10 correctly. We will discuss different ways
to make 9, 10. We will count in rows, columns, scattered and
circular arrays. (one to one correspondence)

Science: We will learn about being a scientist. We will review
the 5 senses and carry out an investigation to taste, smell,
touch, hear, and sight. Students will have an opportunity to
guess their answers and check their responses.

write about colorful leaves we see. The sentence stem will state:
I see red leaves.

that sound; Phonemic Awareness: Syllables, rhymes Sight word:
see, (review: I, can)

Math: We will be counting numbers 0-10, we will practice
writing numbers 0-8 correctly. We will discuss different ways to
make 6, 7, 8. We will count in rows, columns, scattered and
circular arrays. (one to one correspondence)

Social Studies: rules at home and rules at school

Science: We will learn about being a scientist. We will
discuss the 5 senses, but our focus will be touch, smell, taste, hearing (review sight).

Week of September 23rd

Reading

Identifying Characters and settings. We are listening to the stories titled The Day the crayons quit; Sky Color; A color of his own; Little Blue, Little yellow; The Rainbow and you.

Writing We have been drawing our own personal stories. This week will label our pictures to capture details. 

Language Arts

Phonics: Letters Aa, Tt- correct formation (always start from the top and write down), the sound and words that begin with that sound; Phonemic Awareness: Syllables Sight word: can (review: I)

Math We will be counting numbers 0-10, we will practice writing numbers 0-5 correctly. We will learning how to make 5 in different ways to help count faster and with automaticity through composing 2 groups of objects. 2 and 3 make 5, 1 and 4 make 5 etc.

Social Studies We will review the 3 safety drills: Fire drill, disaster drill and lock down. 

Science We will learn about being a scientist. We will discuss the 5 senses, but our focus will be sight (observation).

Writing: We will be coming up with ideas to write about. We will start by thinking of real events that happen to us and draw a character or characters and the setting. It is all about the details.

Math: We will be counting numbers 0-10, we will practice writing numbers 0-5 correctly. We will learning how to make 5 in different ways to help count faster and with automaticity through composing 2 groups of objects. 2 and 3 make 5, 1 and 4 make 5 etc.

Social Studies: How to be safe during an emergency- we will practice 3 drills: a fire drill (a.k.a. evacuation drill), lock down drill, disaster drill.

Week of September 9th

This week is going to be fun, fun, fun! We will:

Reading: We listen to stories titled: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom; Alphabet Mystery; ABC Jamboree; Shiver me letters; Alphabet tree. With each of these stories your child will have to recall one part from the story and draw a picture in their reading response journal.

Reading vocabulary: author, title, character

Writing: We will practice drawing a boy and a girl. This will be their character. They will have a chance to add a detail to their character.

Writing vocabulary: writing is telling a story on paper

Math: We were practicing sorting by categories. We will now sort and count categories. We will even create our own categories. We will practice counting and writing numbers 0-5.

Math vocabulary: classify, sort, count

Social Studies: We will practice routines and expectations daily. We created a set of rules that we review and are expected to follow We will learn about being fair and sharing. We will discuss different ways to share: taking turns and playing game together.
