Good morning families!
For Parents:
Since my last iBlog post, there have been some more changes that are important for you to be aware of as we continue our journey in online/remote learning.
Last week, Dearborn Public Schools teachers were informed we are no longer allowed to hold any video chats until further notice. This is due to inappropriate behavior that occured with middle school students. To read more about it, I am including the letter from Dr. Glenn Maleyko (superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools).

The school district is working with the Dearborn Police Department to resolve this issue.
In the meantime – I will be pre-recording videos for your children to try to continue their learning the best way I know how to do at this time. I will keep you posted with more information on the situation as it becomes available.
Here is a reminder of the schedule to follow to make sure your child is also having time WITHOUT screens:
5 to 10 Minutes | Plan for Work Time (playtime): Build your child’s ability to organize their time by having them make a “plan” with you about what they would like to play with. Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Adults make plans all the time to organize their thoughts (shopping lists are made before going to the grocery store, to do lists are made to help plan your day etc..). Kids will tell you what they are planning to do/want to play with/how they will use toys at home. |
1 hr. | Work time/Kids play WITHOUT ELECTRONICS Kids can use toys to pretend play, build, and create. |
15 min | Clean Up: Kids clean up the mess they have made while playing. If you notice your child making too big of a mess during play, it’s ok to remind them to clean up what they have already finished using before they move on to the next part of their plan. |
5 to 10 min | Recall: Build your child’s memory of events by having your child tell you what they did while they played (ask “tell me how you did that” or “what did you do next?”) |
Lunch | Prepare lunch: have your child help you prepare lunch. They can help with cooking/setting table- whatever seems appropriate for the meal time. At school the children normally assist with putting plates and utensils on the table as well as scooping their own food onto their plates and passing the food bowls to one another. |
For Kids:
Language, Literacy & Communication:
I have pre recorded two videos for you to watch today. The first video is Greeting Time: In our Greeting Time video today, you will hear me talk about our video calls and our new letter of the week. Also, I need you to remember to tell your grown up what item/material/toy you miss using at school the MOST and have them text me on Remind to let me know what it is.
I also have a new story for you to watch. Be on the look out for Ellie to make a silly face at you! You can make a silly face back at her too.
Remind your grown up to take a picture of you watching one (or both) of my videos and send it to me on Remind.
Math:
By now, your grown up should have gotten you signed up for HappyNumbers.com. It is a website, not an app. If your grown up was super busy, or forgot to do it, here are some pictures with directions for them…

While you are on your Happy Numbers account today, have your grown up take a picture of the activity you are doing today and send it to me on Remind.
Science/Movement:
The weather is going to be BEAUTIFUL outside today. I want ALL of you to get outside to play TWO times today! While you’re outside, talk to your grown up about new signs of Spring you can see. In my backyard, I have a lot of yellow dandelion flowers popping up everywhere! (I am going to be working on getting rid of them soon.) Again, have your grown up take a picture of you playing outside today and send it to me on Remind.
