14th Week of School

Detroit Pistons Assembly today.

I have scheduled my science test for December 6th.  It is on Chapter 1 & 2 in the text book.  Here is the PP again.  Do NOT worry about labeling the cell that will NOT be on the test since we already had a quiz on that.

Chapter 1 Cells The Basic Units of Life & Chapter 2 The Cell in Action Power Point 6th

We will be doing a few experiments before then, however expect a Study Guide that goes along with the PP and the text on Wednesday or Friday.

Cells Study Guide

There then will more than likely be a Geography Test the week after.

13th Week of School

HaPPy ThAnKsGiViNG!

It was so nice to meet so many parents at conferences.  I think it is always a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child’s progress to ensure that we are both on the same page. 🙂

Its only a two day school week… no school Wednesday, Thursday or Friday! Have fun.

We are finishing up on our Gummy Bear Lab on Osmosis this week and will do Mitosis (cell division) when we get back from break.  I am thinking a test November 29th or 30th, but lets see how Tuesday goes.  We also started a new Chapter in Global Studies last week and will continue with that Monday.  We will be looking at climate zones, latitude/longitude, seasons, rotation & revolution of the Earth.

Here is the Power Point for Chapter 2 Geography Chapter 2 The World in Spatial Terms Power Point

I have been checking work over the weekend and I am still finding students are not putting their names on papers… its unacceptable… so as of last week students will lose 5% on their paper after they claim it from the “no name” bin.  It is the first thing you should do.

I am hoping I will have ALL C.E.R.’s checked and recorded before the break.  A handful of students did not not turn this SUMMATIVE paper in.  This is not good.  As I mentioned in conferences summative grades need to be given the biggest attention and should NEVER not be done as well if your test grade happens to be lower than a 90% then you should always retake it.  I am giving you a redo… take advantage of it.

Be sure to clean out your lockers before the break.

12th Week of School

Thank you all for coming to Parent/Teacher Conferences yesterday and I hope those that we did not see we will see you tomorrow at 3:30-6:30 PM.  It really is a great way for us to meet you and discuss academics and behavior.

Also, I extended the Geography C.E.R. to its due date for tonight.  Students must share it with me on Google Doc so I can grant access to it.  I highly recommend that students peer edit and proof read before sharing it.  This will be a summative grade and we will have four these throughout the school year.  There is info on how to be successful that in the previous entry.

Please bring canned good in for donations.

Finally, I am flabbergasted with the amount of “no name” papers I have especially on the more recent science fold-able on the levels of organization.  This is an elementary skill NOT something middle school students should be doing and is unacceptable.  I have about 20 or so.

11th Week of School

I hope students enjoyed their day of yesterday for Election Day and studied for their geography test which is today on Chapter 1.  The finished Study Guide is due today as well (answers were posted on the previous entry).  The retakes for this test is Friday before or after school.

Parent Teacher Conferences are next week Monday 4:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday 3:30-6:30 PM.

Raffle Tickets went home this week in Advisory.  Also, if you can donate canned goods or a board game for those unfortunate.

We started working on our first C.E.R. today on global issues (due Tuesday) here is a C.E.R. Checklist Power Point that I like to reference to help students in their writing, along with a word document for answering yes or no to questions relating to their C.E.R.’s.
