Get a Life!

What do teachers do while not being at school? Most of the teachers I talked to were usually taking care of their family or children. Students think that teachers are always teaching or grading they never thought about how teachers have their own life too!

I interviewed Sylvia Oatley one of the teachers at Unis Middle School. When I asked her if she was busier at school or at home She said, “ Equally busy but different, the brain never stops.”  Mrs. Oatley says that she mainly focuses on taking care of errands and family, so teachers have many other things to do then teach!

Many teachers that I’ve had in the past years usually didn’t want to be teachers. Such as Mrs.Oatey wanted to be an engineer but now she’s happy with the job she has.

Students never really appreciate teachers for what they spend out of pocket money on them.

Mrs.Oatley said that she usually spends $200 – $300 per year on students.

Ms.Olson said “I’m usually spending time with my baby son” Teachers have barely any time to spend with family because they are too busy focusing on their student’s education. Just recently in Ms.Olson’s class, we built a robot. She paid for everything we used and there were many items.

Ms. Olson responded, ” I spent at least $125 on all of the things needed”. She said that money could’ve been spent on her son.

Teachers like Ms.Olson should be appreciated for how hard they work and what they go through and do for their students. Another teacher  Mr. Steven Lott has a lab almost every day.  Mr. Lott admitted, ” labs require many materials that aren’t always fully supplied by the school district.”  He makes learning fun for his students I really appreciate what he does for his students and so do many others.

Mrs. Farhat a teacher a Mcdonald Elementary says “ Being a working mom is really hard—I have worked really hard on trying to balance the two. But I feel like I have to give 110% to everything I do.  A lot of my time on the weekend is spent organizing and planning for the upcoming week so that it runs smoothly.”

Mrs.Farhat was inspired by her teacher in first grade. She stated “ I wanted to be a caring, creative teacher just like her!”

When I asked her how much do you spend on students a year she said “I stopped keeping track of what I spend!”
