In 2016 the Dearborn District suspended school of choice. School of Choice is where you live far from a school you want to go to which gives you an opportunity to sign paperwork in order for you to go to that school.
Nobody knows why they don’t allow school of choice anymore. If you live in a different district they would let you go to the school you want to go to go too. Diana Ayad student at Unis Middle School complained “It’s unfair because the school I wouldn’t want to go to would make me feel uncomfortable especially around people that I barely know or cause of the education. A question diana would like to ask is would they ever allow school of choice ever again. “I think they removed school of choice because of the dearborn population. People come from different countries every week people from different countries come to America oftenly especially in Dearborn Michigan.”
“I would be relieved if they allowed it again so my brothers and I would be able to go to any school we want with a better education and we would be comfortable around the people there too”.
Student Zahraa Bazzi 8th grader attends Woodworth Middle School “I have been with the students at Woodworth since I was 5 years old they are all family to me I would hate to leave my friends” Zahraa is on the volleyball team at Woodworth she explained “My team is also a family to me I’m the only child to my parents all those girls are my sisters I wouldn’t want to play for another team” I continued to ask Bazzi if she thinks it’s fair “If students that are troublemakers who get suspended everyday and most likely class clowns maybe they should transfer them to other schools it’s not fair for other students who have 4.0 GPA’s”
Mona Ramal secretary at McCollough Unis School didn’t want to get her photo taken but she insisted that it really doesn’t matter what school you go too and that most of the students care about going to school with their friends when it really matters about the education “all schools teach the same thing it’s not a big deal the students can make new friends education is way more important” she gets about 100 calls an hour from parents during school hours parents ask her questions to do with teaching, attendance, and meetings.
How would you feel if your child didn’t have the opportunity to choose the school he or she wanted to go too? Education in all schools matter. Dearborn has a really big population especially including arabs, about 90% of the Dearborn population is are Arabs. Schools like McCollough Unis, Lowrey Elementary and Middle school, and Woodworth Middle School all of those schools and more are full of arabic students and teachers too!
