What Adults Can Learn From Students

Kids are much more intelligent than most adults think. When adults look down at us and call us “childish” that motivates us even more to prove to them that just because we’re young doesn’t mean we aren’t as smart as them. In the TED talk “What Adults Can Learn From Kids” 12 year old child prodigy Adora Svitka talks about how kids’ bold ideas and wild creativity are not as useless as you think. This TED talk deserves to be among the top 100 Ted talks because people need to understand that kids are the future.

In this Ted talk, Adora brings up a lot of good points as to why adults need to stop thinking less of kids. She says “Adults often underestimate kids’ abilities. We love challenges, but when expectations are low, trust me, we will sink to them.” I thought this was the golden line of the video because it points out the fact that adults are always trying to set boundaries and pointless rules on kids that stop them from letting their mind soar and do amazing things. It’s kind of like they see us as a threat.

In conclusion I believe that this Ted talk earned it’s spot on the top 100 list of Ted talk’s because it really makes you think. It makes you think about how much power kids really have for the future of this earth and how underestimating them and their abilities to do great things can have a negative impact on them. Setting boundaries only discourages kids from living up to their full potential, and honestly that’s all we’re getting from adults. Discouragement.

I have to agree with this because lots of parents doubt their children. Many parents always tell their children “you can’t do it” “don’t even try'” whats the point of being a parent if your not going to motivate your kids to be better and stronger then you have, isn’t that what having a kid is all about? Not letting your kids make the same mistake you’ve done in the past? Kids also have better mind sets then adults when they put there mind to it.
