Veggie, Yes or No?

A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat, and sometimes other animal products. It has become more common for people to become vegetarians and for restaurants to have an all vegetarian menu. Some argue that being a vegetarian is a good choice. Do you agree?

Vegetarian time study shows that 7.3 million Americans are vegetarians. 59% percent female; 41% male. I believe that being vegetarian is a great and healthy lifestyle. Being a vegetarian increases the body’s metabolism and burns 16% more calories faster than a meat- based diet. Vegetarians are less likely to develop food allergies, which I think is good and better for the human body considering the amount of times I’ve gotten sick after eating something.

For this reason, I feel as if being a vegetarian is a much healthier choice. A vegetarian’s diet build healthy bones because vegetarians consume more calcium than meat eater and a vegetarians diet also lowers the risk of heart disease. I once read an article on vegetarianism and the benefits of a vegetarian diet. I  read that a vegetarian diet makes a person live longer, lowers the risk of diseases, and lowers the likelihood of developing cancer by 40%. I thought this was a neat and health lifestyle and would seriously benefit many people.

Even though Vegetarianism does have its benefits, being a meat eater does as well. Eating meat has been an essential part of human evolution for 2.3 million years. Meat is also the most convenient protein source available, even though there is the occasional, eggs, cheese, nuts and beans. As far as I can tell, I think meat is an important addition in an everyday diet because it contains essential nutrients such as, iron and vitamin B which is good for blood production.

Weather you are a vegetarian or a meat eater you have to admit there are some pros and cons from what I read. Both diets are healthy and beneficial in many ways as I see it.

  1. I would never be a vegetarian because I like meat. Also, being a vegetarian infers with my religion. Because every year on Eid we have to cut a sheep and eat its meat. I never knew that there is more then 7 million vegetarians. Also, I never knew being a vegetarian is good for you. It lowers the risk of Heart Diseases, and cancer. Although I don’t want to be a vegetarian it sounds cool.

  2. Being vegetarian may help you, but when I was raised eating meat my whole life, changing my lifestyle is practically impossible for me. Meat gives you protein, and it is in our food pyramid. But I do agree that you can’t just be eating meat, because that is unhealthy and may lead to health problems.

  3. I think being a vegetarian is healthy, but at the same time where do you get your protein from? I’m not a big fan of meat but I will eat it but not all the time. I agree with eating a lot if meat can cause health problems. Many people just cannot stop meat because they have gotten used to it.

  4. I would never in my life give up meat. Meat is the most delicious thing a live. In my opinion, all the vegetarians out there are missing out. But being one isn’t such a bad thing, you would be very healthy and don’t have to worry about health problems. Vegetarians must have a strong will because they will never taste meat in their life.

Being vegetarian can help u because it makes you healthy but for me i like both because each food you cook has a different kinds of thing in it but some food are mixed with chicken and vegetables. Meat gives you protein and I agree that we should be eating vegetables because people say it makes you smart I think it might be true. 7 million people like vegetables. But I think around 10 million people like meat.

In my opinion no I wouldn’t ever be a vegetarian because I always eat meat, it has a lot of protein and it is good for you. veggies are really good for you but sometimes you need to have meat in your system. most vegetarians have health issues due to the circumstances of not getting enough protein and calcium from meat, they lose important vitamins such as iron.

  7. Being a vegetarian is a very healthy lifestyle, and it is amazing that over 7 million people are vegetarian. But, some people can’t handle being a vegetarian because they love meat. I think that it would be hard for me to be a vegetarian but I still think I could do it some day. It reduces the risk of heart disease and your metabolism could burn 16% more calories.

  8. I would not like to be a vegetarian because meat is good for you and it is in our food pyramid. Meat is full of protein but the downside is if you too much you can have Heart Diseases and that is really bad for your health. Some vegetarians find eating meat really bad for you. In fact 31% of indians are vegetarians (40.3 million).

  9. i would not like to be a vegetarian because i love meat and basically ever thing i eat has meat or chicken. although you would be very healthy if you were a vegetarian. meat has alot of protein and being a vegeatarian would be very hard for me. its crazy that 7.3 million americans are vegetrain 59% are female and 41% are males. meat could cause dissese such as cancer. but i still dont think i could be a vegetrain.

  11. i can relate to this because my sister is a vegetarian. it seems like she doesn’t eat a lot during the day. that might not be good but Anyways i would like to be able to be a vegetarian. But i wouldn’t really choose to. I think its good to be a vegetarian because they are more healthy. they eat more fruits and vegetables and its easier for them to lose weight. something i didn’t know is that being a vegetarian would less likely lead to food allergies which is a good thing. even though meat is known to give us protein and vegetarians would not be able to eat the meat they can choose other sources of protein such as beans, lentils, nuts and soy.

  15. I think being/becoming vegetarian is a good choice. Vegetarians are healthier than meat eaters. It decreases your chances of a heart disease, you are less likely to develop food allergies and your metabolism is higher. You can still get your protein by eating foods other than meat, although meat is still important, but not nesscary.

  16. I guess if I eat meat i’m a vegetarian. Many people have different opions for them selves. You don’t even have to be a vegitarian. It’s your choice it’s either you are or your not. Some meats are very good like barbeque meat to me that’s delicious. Well of course meat has a lot of protein but you can’t eat it all the time just by it’s self.

  17. I could never picture my self as a vegetarian because all of my favorite food contain something from an animal and their are way more food with meat then no meat. Meat is also beneficial in many ways as are parents would say ” eat your meat” it will make you strong. I am not against vegetarians at all i give them credit i actually read that veterans have a stable food supply because it isn’t as expensive as meat is.

  18. I would never be a vegetarian due to my religion. Even if I had the choice to be a vegetarian, I wouldn’t be. First of all in my religion every year on Eid, We cut open a goat/sheep and step over it, then we are required to eat the meat. Second of all, I like meat! I think people really have to commit to be a vegetarian. I can’t believe people have enough self-control to care so much about their diet. Being a vegetarian may help your body, but I think I’d rather eat meat then become a vegetarian. Meat give protein, Also Meat is the tastiest way to gain protein.

  19. I don’t agree with being a vegetarian but I do believe we should eat fruits and vegetables. I don’t agree because in my culture and religion we have to eat meat on a specific day. I also don’t want to be a vegetarian because not ever eating meat just sounds uncomfortable to me. Also being a vegetarian doesn’t allow you to get the nutrients you get from eating meat which is really important to our health and. Finally, study shows that being a vegetarian isn’t better than any other healthy diets and I think that’s the only reason people become vegetarians because it’s supposedly a “healthier diet”.

  20. This article was a great article to read because it helped me learn about being a vegetarian and how it would affect my health. I was raised eating chicken or meat at least once a week. But I did not know it can decrease the chances of getting cancer by 40%. Which is huge in the world because I researched it and learned that 564,800 die from cancer which would decrease if we had more than 7.3 million vegetarians in the U.S.

Although being a vegetarian is better for your health, I have been eating meat my whole life and some of my favorite foods are made with meat so it would be hard for me to change and stop eating meat. I didn’t know that being a vegetarian did so many good things for your health, but you don’t get a lot of protein when your a vegetarian. This topic makes me want to become a vegetarian one day. I thought this topic was very interesting and I like the way it stated pros and cons of both sides.

  22. I assumed by the title as in eating your daily vegetables. However the article throughout was still good. I knew that vegetarians have benefits but not that much. You did a great job of giving a review of a vegetarians. A good addition to the article is perhaps a paragraph talking about or giving an example of a vegetarian’s daily diet or perhaps at least a diagram/table showing so. All in all very intriguing and compelling article all throughout.

It’s a lot harder than u think her are some foods that vegetarians cant eat steak, hamburger, hot dog, fish, sushi, chicken,and meat or chicken subs are eaten almost every day world wide. 7.3 million people are vegetarians out of the 7 billion people on this earth, 59% percent of vegetarians are female and 41% are male. Also, being a vegetarian burns 16% more calories faster than a meat- based diet. vegetarian is a much healthier choice, but meat eaters have a lot of benefits. To rap it up vegetarians are extremely healthy people but i could never not be able to eat meat.

  24. To be completely honest i think being a vegetarian is great. I just am to weak to not eat meat. But other than that being a vegetarian is great for yourself and the animals that don’t get killed. It would be nice to try and be a vegetarian for a while but i know i wouldn’t last. It is true what they say that being a vegetarian is good for your health, decreases the risks of diseases, and is just healthy for yourself and the animals. But it’s also true that it doesn’t give you the protein your body needs. Yes there are eggs, nuts, cheese, and beans like the article said. But some vegetarians don’t eat dairy products (vegans). Not only that but they have a low iron and vitamin B amount in their body. I agree with vegetarians and their way of life. And i think i would love being one. But i can’t last without meat, chicken, seafood, etc.

In my opinion I think being vegetarian is just weird the reason for that is meat tastes delicious and if I had to stop eating meat it would be really hard because I have been eating meat my whole life. But some benefits of not eating meat includes lower disease risk so if you’re vegetarian the chances of you getting cancer, diabetes, and heart disease are a lot lower. Another benefit of being vegetarian is if u eat less meat you’ll live 6-12 years longer unless you get killed of course

  26. Being a vegetarian is healthier then eating meat but meat gives you protein and it makes your strong but eating only fruits and vegetables reduces the calories that are in your body. Personally I don’t to be a vegetarian because I enjoy meat more then fruits and vegetables.

Meat is kind of bad for you, but veggies are my worst enemy. Veggies and meat will never go together. I say no to veggies yes to meat.

  28. I respect the choice of being vegetarian because, for someone like me (very picky), its especially hard. I say that because Im a person who hates most vegetables and basically lives on eating meat. Which I know is very unhealthy. I realize that vegetables are very healthy and decrease heart problems. I try to eat as much vegetables every once in a while because I’ve been told that the more I eat vegetables, the more I will get used to them. Although, I don’t eat vegetables much, I still think they are good for your health, and I think kids should be eating more vegetables because , the more they grow, the more they will get used them and keep a healthy diet.

An interesting fact about this article is that there are 7 million vegetarians in the United States, I never knew the number was that big. I never knew that being a vegetarian is good for you. It lowers the risk of cancer, and heart diseases. Even though being a vegetarian sounds very cool I would not like to be one because I love eating meat.

  32. It is true that being a vegetarian is healthy and is a better way to eat but I can’t resist not eating meat and chicken. I can’t believe how 7.3 million Americans are vegitarians. I know that being a vegetarian can lower the risk of cancer and can prevent many health problems, but I will pass. Meat is so good and what else will we eat on thanks giving other than turkey. This is a very good topic but I will never become a vegetarian I will always be a meat lover.
