Visions of beauty

Makeup has evolved throughout the years. Appearance and beauty has always been a major aspect of women’s lives. Today, new makeup lines are created through the combined efforts of cosmetologists and dermatologists. Makeup has been in use for a long time. Researchers have discovered that the use of makeup goes back at least six thousand years to Ancient Egypt. Makeup, somehow, has always been used in almost every recorded society in history.

The earliest historical record of makeup comes from the 1st Dynasty of Egypt. Unguent was a substance extensively used by men and women to keep their skin hydrated and to avoid wrinkles from the dry heat. The women of Egypt also decorated their eyes by applying dark green color to under lid and blackening the lashes and upper lid with kohl. Romans started using cosmetics by the middle of the 1st century. They used kohl for darkening eyelashes and eyelids, chalk was used for whitening the complexion, and rouge was worn on the cheek.

Danya Aljebori, an 8th grader that attends Unis Middle School thinks, “A lot of people think makeup is to make you look pretty. Lots of people think of makeup differently. Some use it to impress others, while others use it because they think it is an unique art.” Another student that had something to say was Ayah Berro, another 8th grader that attends Unis Middle School says, “Lots of girls here at Unis, usually wear concealer to cover up any pimples, acne, or blemishes. Some usually put on a light coat of mascara and some lipgloss. I personally don’t put any makeup to school because I don’t think it’s worth it and I don’t have the time.”

Hadil Fawaz, a 9th grader that attends Fordson High School explained, “Well most kids here, at Fordson, put makeup how they like to. Some put a little, while others like to show it off. Most of them can be creative. They like to put colors to pop more. Many feel like this is the way to show theirselves to other people. Many judge and others don’t care.“ Lots of girls wear makeup now as a daily routine. They even wear makeup to school. Lots of girls also record themselves doing a makeup tutorial, which these videos would be uploaded to YouTube, Instagram, or even Snapchat. The only bad thing about makeup is that it can cause lots of acne and pimples to certain sensitive skins.

In today’s world, a woman has literally hundreds of cosmetics to choose from, with a wide variety of colors and uses. Makeup is seen everywhere you go. Makeup is viewed differently from people. Some like it, and some don’t. Some wear it everyday as a daily routine, while others just put makeup on for certain occasions, and some don’t wear it at all. To top it all off, makeup has become a very famous beauty technique. Do you wear makeup?

  1. Yes, I do wear makeup but not to school and not daily. Makeup is the best thing for my face. I love putting it on for parties. Whenever I go shopping I see makeup everywhere. But however you look with or without makeup doesn’t matter. You are who are, Just be you. Our face is where people look to know us or understand us.

  2. I put on makeup but not all the time, just like Aya Berro said “I don’t think it’s worth it and I don’t have the time” which is true because I don’t have time to wake up do what ever I need and then put on makeup. The only reason why I put on makeup sometimes is to cover up my pimples. I completely agree with Aya Berro on what she said

  3. Well girls put makeup for a reason. Some like to wear makeup because they want to express their selves. Not to impress others!!!! But still girls don’t need makeup they are beautiful just the way they are. Some want to look younger and some want to look older and some want to have confidence.

  4. There is a real need for something different to the present right wing news monopoly. It is a truth that most of the planet’s news provision is owned by right wing capitalists. Their aim is to propogate the cause of capitalism and retain the planet’s gap between wealthy and poor. Left Insider promotes left wing news from reliable sites such as Novara and The Canary etc. We all own the birthright to maximise our own potential and we all have the obligation to assist others achieve theirs.

  5. It is true that makeup has become very famous and is used a lot. I think this was a very good topic because it explained the different point of views of girls and makeup. Most girls put make up to impress not to express. I think this is wrong. I believe that girls are beautiful just the way they are and they don’t need makeup to make them feel good about themselves.

  6. I think that makeup is just another layer of skin it doesn’t change the way you look. Makeup doesn’t make you look better it makes you look ugly for all I know. Makeup is just a way to make money honestly!
