Over the summer,students at McCollough Unis, were forced to do 8 hours of Khan Academy online work whether we liked it or not. This was a must because this was an assignment grade. There were some students who thought this was a walk in a park and didn’t mind doing work over the summer. The other half of the students were complaining and questioning.
This is what was revealed after speaking with Mrs.Oatley and Mrs.Bartley who both thought that this assignment will do a lot of good. “I think Khan Academy is a great way to practice math. The point of homework and assignments for students is to practice the skills they are learning in school.” said Mrs.Bartley.
“The questioning was going crazy or why is this even a grade?”, many students would ask, well here’s your answer! “Students tend to have a dip in learning and understanding over the summer.”, Mrs.Bartley declared. Students aren’t practicing those skills that they worked so hard for all year long.
“Khan Academy over the summer is a way for students to keep track and come back to school ready for a new year,” said Ms.Oatley. NWEA is on its way and everybody is getting ready for this monstrous test, one way is Khan Academy, but is it that useful? “Yes, I think Khan Academy is helping students with their NWEA. That’s IF the students takes their assignment seriously and use Khan Academy as a tool.” stated Ms.Oatley.
Ali Farhat, a 7th 
grade student in Unis Middle School, is one of the many people who disagree with having Khan Academy as a grade. “I feel like Khan Academy is a useful website, it helps a lot, you search up what you want and practice”,he said.
One things for sure is he doesn’t agree with having this as a grade, Khan Academy is a website used for practicing things we lack on doing, if we just focus on getting the number of hours, we won’t learn anything”, Ali says.
Now there is another group of students who agree with having Khan Academy as a grade. Summer Saeed, a 8th grade student in Unis Middle School, agrees with this process. “ I do agree with this, it’s a good extra credit grade that will help me out”, stated Summer.
Khan Academy must be a real help tonSummer and her NWEA score, “ I have seen a huge increase in my NWEA score, thanks to Khan Academy.” Khan Academy is a very good website to use, “ I love math, it’s a fun way to go on his website and test myself.”
There are two sides of this story, one that agrees,and the other that disagree. Teachers are really recommending this website because it helps you a lot with things you lack, what you’re learning in class, and helps to improve your NWEA score. Its better to do something than nothing.

Khan Academy helps me improve in my NWEA RIT score. I like doing khan academy over the weekends. Also, I do khan academy 1 hour per week for math class.

Khan academy really helped me. I am am always trying something new and learning something new when I didn’t learn about it. I believe that khan academy is a useful website. The NWEA for the winter that I did, I had questions that I saw on khan academy that I didn’t learn yet in class.

I think Khan Academy is a website that should be used in every school. I think that because it helps you a lot. Khan Academy really helps me improve in my NWEA RIT scores. Khan Academy shows your teacher where your at. Because some people are really behind in math and the teacher could assign some homework on khan academy to see where were at. Khan academy really helps most students improve in their math skills.

Well, if I really had to choose a side I think I would have to disagree. The only problem I have is that you have to do one hour every week, you can’t just do two hours one week and none the other. In the end I don’t think I actually finished all 8 hours of khan, but just because I don’t really like doing khan academy doesn’t mean it isn’t helpful. Although most of the time I just go on it to check if I grasped the concept, it may sometimes help me with understanding my homework (by watching the videos). All in all, I think having khan academy over the summer is a good idea but only if you bend the rules a bit.

I used to not do Khan Academy, now I do it 1 to 2 hours a week and I’ve noticed I have less trouble in math now, and on the NWEA, tests, etc;. I also do Khan Academy in Mrs. Gensers Math Class which improves my grade by a lot.

I do feel that Khan Academy is a very useful and important tool used in our school. I do an hour every week for my homework but I have also noticed its helped with lots of my studying. I found that when going and practicing what’s on my test that I know weather or not I need extra help on this subject. I’ve also been practicing lots of the recommended skills that Mrs. Oatley has assigned, this way I can challenge my brain to see if I can solve these problems without an explanation from my teacher. So not only is this a very useful tool during the school year but also during the summer. Its a great way to keep your mind refreshed on what you’ve learned in that school year so it wont go all to waste, because I know for a fact that I’ve forgotten lots of things I’ve learned over the course of 3 months.

This is such a good story it’s so interesting. I believe khan academy is so so helpful because it helps you learn more. Khan academy helps my grades so much it raises my grades a lot. Also having khan academy in the summer is not a bad idea but because it will keep you focused with your school work and it wont let you forget the things you learned. Like Mrs Bartley was saying the point of having homework is to practice skills.

i believe that Khan Academy is a great learning tool to use over the summer and it should be graded. i believe that because kids think that summer is just a time to have fun and forget about everything. But its also the time you forget everything you learned and that’s a problem. that’s a problem because when you go back to school and you have the NWEA test right away and while your taking that test all you remember was playing and messing around. then you will think to yourself and say i wish i would’ve did Khan Academy. Not only will not doing your Khan Academy effect your test score but it effect your grade in your Language class and Math class and you will most likely get a E because Khan Academy counted as 80% of your grade like a test. if you get a E in your Language class or Math class you will go summer school. when your sitting in chair learning in the summer while your friends are playing you would wish you would’ve did your Khan Academy like them.
I believe that can academy is a great tool and should be graded. I think that we should have to do work in the summer because in the summer people forget most of what they have learned. Making it graded the kids will have do you do it is if they care about their grade. Can academy can be very helpful and boost students academic level .
