Basketball, a world wide sport, is being played in our school, Unis. It provides sports opportunities for girls and boys. For example, the girls basketball team. The girls basketball team is a great team, which gives opportunities for girls who are good at basketball. However there’s a problem. They’re not doing too well. It’s causing them to lose to most of the the other schools, which is embarrassing to them.
Jana Ghoul, #24 on the girls basketball team states that, “If we work with each other and communicate as a team and depend on each other, we would be more successful”. There are 7 basketball teams in the district, including us. They all have girl basketball teams. So far we have played OL Smith, Woodworth, Bryant, and Lowery. Our team lost 3 games out of 4 and only won once. During the times they lost, the team felt embarrassed which affected our school because now if teams play us, they might feel like they are going to win because of our previous games.
What the other schools might think is not true, the girls basketball are a great team. All they need is good communication. Nour Bazzi, one of their fans who watches their games says, “I think it’s just the girls being able to stick as one and help each other out.” One of the problems could be that some of the girls might not follow the position or plays the coach, Ms. Lancaster, assigns. She gives each player a position in the game.
One of the players, Douaa Daher, states that, “She gives us plays and we do follow it, but if only the girls could adjust. If their position fails we would do better.” That could be true. For example you’re in a game playing and you were supposed to get the ball from your teammate, but you got blocked, you would switch places. Other girls would stay there and when the teammate passes the ball, the other team takes it and scores.
One of the solutions they are working on is every time they lose, it’s a bad and a good thing. It could embarrass them, but it could also make them more competitive. In the future, our school hopes the girls basketball team do well in the games, and our school will then be supported by watching their games and cheering them on to help them feel stronger and more competitive.

I was in the basketball team and it was hard for me to win but, we got close to the championship, unfortunately we didn’t make it, but because we got close to the championship thanks Mrs. Lancaster for helping me to push my self to get better.
Great shout out to Ms. Lancaster, isn’t she the best!?!
