Michigan Same Sex Marriage Update

Gay Marriage has been banned since 1960 in the State of Michigan. The rule was no people of the same gender can get married to each other.

Well on March 21st, 2014 Michigan passed the law allowing marriage to your own gender, and hundreds of gay people were happy about it.

Many went to the court house and got married as soon as they could. Lots of people are against this gay marriage so they were all outside of City Hall protesting that there shouldn’t be gay marriage.

Lots of people say that gay marriage is a sign that the world is coming to an end!

On Monday in Ypsilanti Township, three men assaulted a woman because she married her gay partner. One of them, calling her a terrible names for a woman.  A man then punched her in the face, knocking her to the floor and causing her to lose awareness. When she woke up, one of the men was kicking her in the torso.

This  women had been seen on the news for wanting to marry her partner. Since lots of people have been judging and making scenes they have now decided to hold back gay marriage until 2016.  Gay couples will have to wait two years to get possibly get married in Michigan now.

  1. Very newsy post, Amar. Being current with stories that are in the news, and bringing new sources to light, gives journalism its punch!

  2. This story on same sex marriage was very eye opening. I really can’t believe that someone would lay a hand on someone just because they choose to be gay. I know it may seem wrong to some people and I can honestly say I don’t support it. But I can say if someone were to come up to me and say, “I’m gay and I’m proud”, I would say good for you and go on with my life. I don’t plan to offend them and shove my opinion down their throat. My opinion should not matter because words and punches don’t make someone change themselves, it makes them want to strive for freedom to what I didn’t support. People should start minding their own business until it’s really necessary.

  3. That was a excellent story Amar. I truly think the that people should not get married to the same sex they are. But at the same time they have the freedom of doing what they think is right for them. Great story !!!!!!

  4. I like this story because I had just learned/found out that Obama actually allows same sex marriage. This was a great topic to Write about. Good job.

  5. I really liked this post because of the example Amar mentioned in Ypsilanti Township. She has proof about how a woman was happy with same sex marriage but got harassed for being getting married when it was legal.

  6. I think most people are against gay marriage because of their religion. Myself personally, I don’t have a problem with same sex marriage but I don’t think many would agree with me. But this is a very accentuate and detailed story well done:)

  7. I believe that people should mind their own business. Gay marriage should be allowed everywhere, there is no difference between male and female couples, male and male couples, or female and female couples. Love shouldn’t be controlled, people deserve to love who ever they want and no one should try to stop that. This was a very good story to write about. It easily grabbed my attention!

  8. Great story, Amar! Choosing this topic is very tricky because most people do not agree with same sex marriage. But abusing a woman for her own decisions is wrong and she should freely do what she wants with her love life whether if it’s a boy or girl. But overall this story was very useful since I never knew that this law has passed before.

  9. Just because someone gets married differently doesn’t mean they have to be treated differently. I’d hate to be in those people steps, afraid to walk in their own neighborhood because people might judge or beat them. Gender doesn’t matter when it comes to a relationship.

  10. Amazing story. I mean like gay marriage should be allowed everywhere, why do people care about a persons life, let him/her do whatever they want, and we’re all humans so it doesnt matter. So please people dont get into someones life and let them do whatever they can.

  11. I like this story about gay marriage because this is unfortunately true people hate gay marriage and do think it’s the end of the world as you said. However I agree with gay marriage in America because this is a free country anyone should be able to love the same gender. Love cannot be prayed away or extinguished because love is a strong thing.

  12. Gay or not they should be treated all the same. If you were to find someone Gay would you look at them in a disrespectful way or in a way you would look at everyone else? I respect and accept the fact that being gay isn’t acceptable for other people but those people who don’t accept it should really look more into it. Everyone deserves to be happy!
