Welcome back to school!

Welcome back to school!

I would like to take this moment to welcome you to a brand new school year!  I know that 2009-2010 is going to be the best yet!  I am looking forward to being your music teacher this year and have many fun and exciting activities planned for you.  We will be doing some online learning in our 7th and 8th grade Music classes this year so you will need to check this blog often.  Those who do not have home access to a computer may need to visit the Public library for certain assignments.  We (the students and I) will make sure that the blog is updated with all relevant concert and event information.

Also new this year…Our music classes will be run more like a business.  That is to say that I will be appointing department chairs and managers who will be responsible for a team.   They will be responsible for writing a business plan related to thier particular area as well as identifying specific duties (job description) and recruiting a team.   We will hold team meetings in which they will give me updates on their Departments.  I hope to teach our students relevant management skills that will help them in the business world.  Let’s get started, we have work to do!

Performing Arts Homework

Performing Arts Homework

Remember to take care of your voice!  Try and drink plenty of water to hydrate your vocal cords.

Run through the daily warm-ups before you begin to practice singing.  If you have a piano play notes and then sing them.   Learning the daily warm-ups on the piano can help you practice at home.

Practice your lyrics and notes until fully memorized.  If you find a spot that you forget the words that is a clue that it is not yet memorized!  Keep working!

Daily work for Instrumental music

Daily work for Instrumental music

Play scales everyday.

If you want to improve your playing abilities practice 20-40 minutes everyday.

It is not enough to work a piece of music unitil you can play it.  To maintain that level you must continue to practice.  Endurance is only achieved by continuous practice – you will notice difference.  The music will get easier and you will sound better!

Know all notes, rhythms, bowings, fingerings, dynamic markings and be able to play them in every song.

Remember:  There is always something that you can perform better in your concert music.   Strive for excellence!
