Special Area Assignments

5/11-5/15

Each day, students should focus on one special area. Our special area classes are a great opportunity for students to get a break from core subjects, supplement core subjects, and enrich their lives. We will collect and grade work on a weekly basis.

Monday – Media

This week I would like you to choose and research an animal on Kids – Kids – Michigan eLibrary at Michigan … scroll down to use either PebbleGo or World Book Kids to find and read about an animal.  DO NOT CHOOSE A CAT OR DOG, please choose an animal that you are not familiar with and can learn about. I would like you to then go to your Google Classroom and write 3-5 sentences about your animal on a Drawing and add images.

Tuesday – Art

You may choose to complete an art iLearn course OR to complete an art project from my blog https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/homeart/ . More information about how to enroll in an iLearn course can be found here . The iLearn courses have multiple projects in them, so they will take more than one week. If you choose a project off of my blog, you should do one new project every week. New projects are added every week. When you have finished your project you can email me a photo at brucep1@dearbornschools.org or message me a photo of it on Dojo. Mrs. Masiarczyk and I are hosting a combined P.E. and Art optional BigBlueButton hangout for kindergarten, first, and second grades on the GP Specials iLearn page on Tuesdays from 2:00-2:40 where you can come to ask questions, show me art you have created, and this week participate in an exercise challenge! This sentence is a link to a video that shows how to enroll in our iLearn course. Feel free to also email me or message on Dojo with any further questions.

Wednesday – Enrichment

Thursday – Music

Remember the game “Ro-Sham-Bo” that Coach Toya taught us? If you don’t know that game, you might know the game “Rock Paper Scissors”. In Japan, they play a version of this game called “Se Se Se”. Learn how to play the game by watching Mrs. Lograsso here. You can use this practice sheet to remember the words when you are practicing. When you are done watching and practicing, upload a video of yourself playing the game with a family member to the google form here.

Other ways to participate: I am posting one mystery song a day on my blog! Ask family/friends, use Google or Youtube, and figure out the name of the song and artist! When you think you know the answer, email the name and artist to me. Every right answer will earn you one raffle ticket. At the end of the year, I will pull a ticket and drop off a prize at that student’s house! You can also earn a ticket by watching a Read Aloud on the blog and emailing me a summary of the story!

Links can always be found on my blog at Mrs. Lograsso’s Music. I am always available by email at lograsm@dearbornschools.org. I will be holding office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am to noon. Email me to set up a phone call or video chat during that time.

Friday – PE

Week of May 11th

 Hi boys and girls,

Last week we made bean bags and participated in an underhand tossing game. This week we are back to doing a workout. I did mention that you will need chalk for this week’s activity so I hope that you have some. If you picked up your packet from school last Friday you would have received a package of chalk (1 per family). There was a limited amount as chalk has been hard to find. I hope you received one.

This week’s lesson has you making a workout grid with chalk, kind of like hopscotch. In this activity, each square you jump into has you doing a different exercise. When drawing out your grid, choose any exercise you want to place in each square. I have a video that shows you what I have done, but feel free to make it your own. Be creative and send me a picture of what you have created if you would like to share.I’d love to see yours.  masiarm@dearbornschools.org

I want to give you a heads up on next week’s plans. Please try to get a jump rope. If you don’t have one, you can make one with line rope (the rope that people use to hang their clothes to dry). Honestly, I had one when I was a kid.

Please go to my blog to submit your workout on the fitness log.
