November 4

Week of November 4

God bless all parents! I babysat all weekend while taking care of my own 17 month old. I have a new respect for parents of multiple children. I am exhausted and just getting to school work this Sunday evening.

This week we are continuing working hard. Nothing really new, we are still in the beginning/middle of all our units of study. Please see attached A Look at the Week to see what we will be working on and how you can extend our learning at home.

Reminders:

  • Tuesday no school
  • Thursday begins Parent-Teacher Conferences
  • Friday PTA meeting at 9 in the cafeteria

Week of October 29

Happy rainy Saturday!

Last week was a blast especially with PBIS and the BOO Bash. Halloween is next week, and please remember CANDY IS NOT A SNACK! Candy is a treat, and should be only given as such. Please do not send candy for snack or for lunch – in fact leave all candy at home!

Lastly, the weather is getting chillier. I understand that 5th graders dress themselves, but have them come to school in a jacket. They do outdoor recess as least once or twice a day and they should be bundled up.

Reading in class

Congratulations to our first 2 groups to finish their first strategy books! We have already started our second book and are happily reading.

The girls are hard at work making inferences to the texts we are reading in class.

Week of October 22

Good Sunday evening,

I have been fighting a fever for 2 days straight and am ready to get out of bed and back to work! I hope no one else had to experience the exhaustion that I endured this weekend.

This coming week:

PBIS will be on Thursday! All qualifying students will get to participate in the whole event, a few students will be unable to attend one part due to their poor choices.

We will be doing a math assessment on Thursday and finishing up Friday. KEEP AN EYE OUT ON WEDNESDAY for the practice test/study guide.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Week of October 15

Happy Sunday evening!

Picture day is tomorrow! I’m hoping students remember to come snazzy and in their nines.

No major assessments coming up this week. However, students need to complete a few assignments at home (opinion essays and their Native American reports). They will get part of Monday to finish up, but any unfinished work will have to be completed at home.

Nothing beyond that. Have a great evening.

Week of October 8

Happy rainy weekend!

This coming week we are finally getting started in small group strategy/reading groups! It took a bit to get everyone tested and to match reading levels and skills, but I am excited for the start. We are also SLOWING down math even more. After the mid-module assessment, we want to reteach some of what the students did not do as well in and then move forward. So the 5th grade team will aim to teach 3 concepts a week, instead of a new one every day. Make sure to have your child work on their math homework and revisit concepts we learned. Students have asked for their social studies unit 1 assessment grade. They should be out very soon. I apologize for the delay, there was an issue with the assessment website that is now resolved.

I am half way done grading students’ 3 items reports. I will upload the grades once I have finished them all. Students who have already seen their grades had the opportunity to edit their mistakes and add more to their reports.

This week Friday:

1st PTA meeting at 9 am in the cafeteria

Half day, dismissal is at 11:45

I hope every one stays dry! Have a great Saturday and Sunday!

Week of October 1

Happy fall weather!

My little is in bed for his first nap today, so time for mama to get school work done!

ASSESSMENT:

Our math tests are done and also graded. I am proud of many who clearly took the time to study. It was our first assessment with Eureka math and it is definitely different than what the students are used to. I will give students the opportunity to take their tests home to work out any mistakes for additional points. Each question number (4 in all) are worth 4 points each. I will give students up to 3 if they fix their answers and learn from their mistakes.

We also had a social studies unit test. I will have those graded very soon.

We have successfully had our 4th spelling test and I can see the improvement in students writing already!

THE Coming week:

This week we will do an ICheck in science to see what students have learned so far. There is also a social studies quiz at the end of unit 2 lesson 1, which will possibly fall on Friday.

HOMEWORK

Please make sure your child is completing homework assignments. Spelling is every day, but with an option to turn in on Friday. Math is an assignment with every lesson. Lessons may take 1 or 2 days. On my attached sheet I listed the lessons and possible homework dates, but if we don’t finish the lesson the homework gets pushed to the next day. Thank you for your patience.
