October 2
Hello Families,
I hope you are enjoying the cooler temps, it is much better for us in the classroom for sure! I explained to the students that because we are having a Social Studies test on Friday (it was going to be Thursday – we fell behind) we will not be having a spelling test. We have instrumental on Friday and it would just be too stressful on everyone. Next week the spelling words will include two spelling rules (“i” and “o” rules).
The social studies test is really a review/confirmation of the Constitution/Government. They do have a study guide and a notebook with the information they need to know. We did read some information from the book p. 355-357, the students are welcome to bring a book home and return it the next day. We will go over the study guide more tomorrow. The written questions will require them to explain why it is important to limit the power of any one branch of government and explain what could happen if there was no limit, to explain what would happen if each state had its own laws, military, and currency, and explain how citizens benefit from the Constitution. We have read and discussed and watched video clips to learn this material.
Today for math the students also need to complete Math Succeed lesson 14 #1-4 and complete Zearn 14 by Friday.
I also want to let you know that returned papers did go home earlier this week. I do hang many papers in the classroom to model “good-expected work examples” so some work is still with us in the classroom. Other work, especially written work, is kept in notebooks. If you would like to see your child’s work at anytime, they can bring their things home to show you and then return them to school.
Enjoy your evening and stay dry!!
