Ms. Szalai's 5th Grade

Hello Families!

I hope everyone had a great summer. Today your student brought home a red folder with my welcome letter that has the supply list and the new and improved lunch menu. I am asking that the students have their supplies by next Tuesday, September 3rd. If you are unable to for any reason at all just let me know and I will help out.

This week we will be focusing on routine, expectations, and classroom set-up. We will also begin the math program tomorrow, Wednesday we will begin literacy. The students will take the NWEA fall test next week.

I will post a new blog every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to keep you informed of happenings, homework and tests. On Fridays the students will post to let you know what we have been doing in the classroom in each subject. If you need to talk to me about any questions or concerns you can email me at szalaim@dearbornschools.org, I will respond promptly. I am here early and stay after school the majority of the school year also so you can come in to see me.

As of right now the “special class” schedule is as follows:

Monday – Gym 9:50-10:35 and Art 1:00-1:45

Tuesday – Music 12:10- 12:55

Wednesday – Art 2:40-3:25

Thursday – Music 1:50-2:35

Friday – Library 1:00-1:25 and Gum 2:42-3:27

Suggested Supply List for our room is:

3 composition notebooks, 2 one subject notebooks, 2 two-pocket folders (no big binders), pack of lined paper, hi-lighters, index cards, packages of sticky notes

pencil box, several dry erase markers, thin markers, colored pencils or crayons, scissors, 2 glue sticks, several pencils

a pair of clean socks (one will be used as an dry erase eraser and the other to hold the markers)

A read to self book, healthy snack and water bottle

If the boys can donate Kleenex and the girls could donate wipes it would be great!
