Ms. Szalai's 5th Grade

Hello Everyone – Tomorrow starts a few changes to the online learning that everyone needs to know about. The district has given us more directions on how we are to do things. The first and most important thing is that you need to realize that even though our school buildings are closed – SCHOOL IS NOT OVER IT IS JUST DIFFERENT (VERY DIFFERENT). The lessons we post NEED TO BE DONE just like regular old school. Most days you will only have three subjects to COMPLETE. If there is something going on in your house and you are unable to complete the day’s work then you or a parent need to email me that day – otherwise I have to contact you and your parent to ask why. If it becomes a habit I need to let our resource teachers or principal know so they can touch base to see what can be done to help you get your work done. You all know me — I think you know by now I am an understanding kind of person and will help you – just please be responsible and get your work done – even if you are not in the mood. It is still YOUR SCHOOL WORK.

The grading will be different. Instead of a “1”, “2”, “3”, or “4” you will be getting marked on completion and effort. If you complete everything and it is GOOD 5TH GRADE QUALITY WORK you will be recorded as “complete”, if it is partially done OR poor quality you will be recorded as “incomplete”, if you are not doing the work at all -which I truly hope doesn’t happen- you guys are a great class and this hasn’t been a problem while we were in class but if it happens you will be recorded as “missing”.

WHERE to find the daily lessons is different now also. They wanted us to create a separate page for the daily lessons/assignment. Look up at the top of this page…do you see the medium blue strip? It says “Daily Lessons – Remote Learning 2020”. You will need to click on that everyday to see the day’s assignments/lessons. I will still do my best to post the night before.

GOOGLE MEETINGS – the school is also asking us to meet as a class in “google meetings” at least twice a week. I have never assigned this for 25 people before so I am sure we are going to run into some serious bumps at first but – you know – we will learn from our mistakes. I am hoping to meet on Mondays and Thursdays at 1:30. If you are unable to join the google meet you need to email me so we can meet at another time that day. LOOK AT YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL TOMORROW (MONDAY) AT 12:30 FOR DIRECTIONS ON WHAT TO DO. When we meet we have to follow school rules – raise your hand if you have something to say – be appropriate and polite – when I am talking you need to listen – you know the routine.

YOU MUST CHECK THE BLOG EVERYDAY – it is your responsibility. Completing everything is also your responsibility. If you are having trouble then email me – I can help and we can work things out. I know this is weird, strange, bizarre, stressful, scary, crazy, sad BUT we can get through this together – just don’t fall behind because that is more stressful, crazy, sad, bizarre…you know I will help.

OK —-now a lot of you have been asking me why I am not in the school message that came out last week with all the teacher’s pictures. Here is the reason…and I didn’t tell you before because I didn’t want you to worry. When the “teacher message” was made I was very busy helping Justin. You know Justin works in the ICU at Wyandotte Hospital – well – at the end of March he got pretty sick BUT you have seen him – he is young and strong and fought off being sick! He is already back at work helping others. Now you know the real reason – I really am not afraid of cameras.

I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow…hopefully.
