Finish reading ACT III, sc. ii to get the gist of the funeral speeches and their impact.
Check your understanding: You should be able to answer the following(but don’t need to write them out):
ACT III sc. ii Focus—Funeral and Aftermath
- List at least two things that Antony says in his speech that are ironic. Explain type/why.
- What motivates the people to switch allegiance from Brutus to Antony?
- What mode of rhetoric does each man use the most? Why?
- Who arrives at the end of this speech and scene?
- What did Brutus and Cassius do while Antony was speaking?
- Identify some of the rising action from ACT III as well as the climax of the play.

If you missed class on Friday, finish reading ACT III, sc. i from pg. 864-69. You should pay attention to what Antony says to the the conspirators in his monolgue and how it differs from what he says in his soliloquy over Caesar’s body. In addition,look for parallel structure and an allusion.
Bring text on Monday to do sc.ii–Caesar’s funeral.

Caesar Homework
Finish reading ACT II, sc. iii and iv pgs. 855- top of 857 to wrap your post-its and add to the rising action on your plot chart. The quiz is Wednesday.
Look for: building tension in the plot as Caesar’s death draws closer, dramatic irony, parallel structure in Caesar’s scene with his wife to the earlier scene with Brutus/Portia, and another attempt at warning Caesar of his impending doom!

We read/discussed the rest of ACT II sc. i today in class and began an analysis of parallel structure and modes of rhetoric in the scene. We will wrap this up on Monday. If you were absent today, you need to READ pgs. 848-51 so you are caught up and can join a group.
Homework: Read and finish annotating with post-its, sc. ii on pgs. 851- middle of 855 for Monday.

Read chunk 2 of ACT II sc. i pgs. 844-46. (Do Post-its)
EVALUATE your post-its. You should be able to answer/discuss the following:
The shift in power: who had it, who has it now, and why?
Explain how/why Brutus uses logos to explain why others should NOT be killed along with Caesar, and how Cassius reacts.
Differences in personality between Cassius and Brutus ( INFER)
Who will get Caesar to go the Capitol and how? INFER what trait of Caesar’s is being reinforced?
ANALYZE the parallel structure in lines 224-33. How does it relate to what Brutus said earlier in the opening pages of scene i?
