March 14th is Pi Day

Today is March 14th, a special Math day. It is a day to celebrate Math’s most famous number represented by a symbol. The number that Pi represents is irrational  (3.1415…) 

We will be learning about Pi and engaging ourselves in many Pi Day activities.

You may want to memorize these fun facts!!

  • Pi is used to calculate the area and circumference of a circle
  • Albert Einstein was born in Germany on March 14th, 1879
  • Ancient Greek Mathematician, Archimedes, was one of the first scholars to calculate pi
  •  It took 1,000 years to prove pi irrational.
  •  The first people to refer to the ratio between the diameter and circumference of a circle were the Ancient Egyptians.
  • “I prefer pi” is a palindrome.
  •  Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day, 1879.
  •  22/7 is sometimes used to estimate pi.
  • The first major Pi Day celebration was in 1988
  •  Pi has been calculated past the two quadrillionth digit.
  •  P and pi are both the 16th letters in their alphabets.
  •  You can likely find your phone number in pi.Here’s the site that searches for                 it: https://angio.net/pi/. I found mine!
  •  And the one that completely blows my mind:   3.14 backwards is PIE!
