Week of November 9th

Monday:  Intro to Biochemisty

Students will discover what Blood Sugar is and how it is related to Carbohydrates – glucose.  The characteristics of Carbon:  bonding and its role in the formation of carbon will be focused on.  Reading below

Hand outs and readings – blood sugar

Tuesday

We will continue to discuss Glucose and the organic molecule it creates – carbohydrates.  Students will create a model of glucose.  They will then link them and model the process of dehydration synthesis and hydrolysis breaking them apart.   concept map attached below

Wednesday

Students will explore what proteins are today.  We will make a protein model by linking together amino acids.  We will study its structure and function

Thursday

Today we will continue with our study of organic molecules and make a concept map of Lipid.  We will read about lipids and discuss cholesterol and hormones in groups and share with a galley walk

What Is Cholesterol

Friday

Students will use puzzles to make a DNA strand and RNA strand – we will learn the monomer that makes up this organic molecule. We will make a foldable  of all 4 major organic molecules
