Packet Delivery

Posted by Sarah Wheble on May 4, 2020 in Blogs |

Good Morning Parents, I just wanted to let you know that we are sorry that the packets for last week were not delivered on time. If you have not received them yet, it is ok. We have a plan moving forward. If you have the packet from last week or get it soon, just save those worksheets as work to do over the summer for summer break.
Here is the plan moving forward:
We have decided to hand deliver our packets each week. We will deliver them on Mondays. This Monday I will be delivering them from 11:15-1:30. If you would like to have your door open during that time so the kids can see me and wave as I put it in your mailbox and/or your front door, that would be great! We will plan to deliver every Monday so that you will have that weeks packet on time in order to start working on the packet, and so students will have it ready for our live teaching on Tuesdays. Thank you so much for your patience during this time. Unfortunately, we cannot control the US Mail, which is why we have chosen to no longer mail the packets and take the time to hand deliver them every week for the next six weeks of school. Please email me if you have any questions or call/text my cell.

Google Meets Grid View Instructions

  • To install
    • go to google and type in the search engine “Google Meet Grid View”
    • Click on the first link that pops up
  • Then click on Add To Chrome.

Using Grid View

  • Now that the grid view extension is installed, anytime you are in Google Meet you will now see a new button in the top right corner of the screen. (next to the people and chat buttons.)
  • Simply click on this button to turn Grid View on or off. Once you turn it on you will now see all the participants in the meeting.

There are a few options you can adjust in the drop-down menu below the button.

  • “Only show participants with video” – If you check this box then Grid View will not show anyone who has turned off their webcam or who doesn’t have a camera to begin with.
  • “Highlight speakers” – If you check this box then anytime someone is speaking, a yellow box will appear around their them in the grid. This can help make it easier to see who is talking.
  • “Include yourself in the grid” – You can check or uncheck this if you want to see yourself as well or not.

Here is a video showing you how to install this if you need additional assistance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELS3jX2tmw

Check Class Dojo Daily

Posted by Sarah Wheble on March 17, 2020 in Blogs |

Good afternoon parents,

I just wanted to let you know that I uploaded two videos today on class dojo. As of right now I can see that all but 3 students and their families are connected. If you have any issues getting connected to class dojo or viewing the videos please email me at whebles@dearbornschools.org. I will be posting videos daily. These videos will include center work, some days I may want them to sit and participate with paper and pencil, their worksheets, or just verbally participate with me as I do an activity. I will post in the comments of the video what supplies they may need if they need any, so that you can have that prepared before you play the video. Please help them engage in these activities. In addition, if you have any questions about the packet that was mailed to you please let me know. I miss all of our students very much! If you would like to take videos of your students and message them to me on class dojo I would love that as well! Please let me know how I can support you and our students during this time.

Update for Parents during school closure due to COVID-19.

Posted by Sarah Wheble on March 17, 2020 in Blogs |

Dear parents,
We know that these next few weeks are going to be very different for all of us. It is very important that during these weeks away we still continue to work on our goals and objectives and help our students maintain all the progress they have achieved so far this year. We realize that online learning every day may not be appropriate for our student population, however we will posting some websites and YouTube video links on class dojo that your students could watch or interact with throughout the next few weeks. In addition, we spent the entire morning on Friday  putting together a packet of work for your child to complete while we are away from school. In these packets you will find many reading activities to work on comprehension, sight word and letter work, writing, number identification, computation worksheets and other math and ela practice. In addition, there is two science chapter texts about light and sound and two social studies text about world war 2 and the war on terror. Please have your student read the chapters a few times, after they are familiar with the chapter they have comprehension questions to answer as well as a multiple choice quiz. Each chapter should take a few days to complete.

Finally, Ms. Cook included a packet for gym so that your child still has some Physical activity throughout the break. If you have any questions at all about these packets please don’t hesitate to message us. These packets were sent in the mail today so you should be receiving them soon.

We also included a social story about the corona virus to read with your student to help them better understand what is going on.

We wish you and your family a safe and healthy few weeks. Again please let us know if you have any questions. We will be posting to class dojo a few times each week. Please comment and let us know how it is going and if we can help in any way!
