Here you will find updates on each unit as we progress through the school year. Some of our units will only take a week or two while other units may take over a month. Please feel free to email me or call with any questions about this course.
January/February Unit:
This months unit is titled “Our place in space”. We will be exploring outer space, the planets and our planet earth! Each week we will focus on one chapter. On Monday we will take a picture walk through the text and discuss as well as make predictions. We will also spend time working with the vocabulary word wall for that chapter and building students prior knowledge before reading the chapter. On Tuesday, we will read the chapter again and discuss and then complete a cloze activity comprehension check. On Wednesday, we will re-read the chapter and then take a quiz to check for overall understanding. Students will be asked to identify the main idea of the chapter, three supporting details as well as draw an inference based on the information read in the text. Finally, on Fridays we complete a Life Skills Application lesson which allows the students to practice what they learned and apply it to a real life situation. Chapter 1: galaxy and space
Chapter 2: Earth
Chapter 3: The Sun
Chapter 4: The Inner Planets
Chapter 5: The Outer Planets
Chapter 6: Our place in Space
October/November Unit:
This months unit is titled “Middle School Science Fair” and will be exploring topics such as the scientific method and completing a science fair. Each week we will focus on one chapter. On Monday we will take a picture walk through the text and discuss as well as make predictions. We will also spend time working with the vocabulary word wall for that chapter and building students prior knowledge before reading the chapter. On Tuesday, we will read the chapter again and discuss and then complete a cloze activity comprehension check. This months unit is titled “At The Amusement Park” and will be exploring topics such as gravity, magnets and physical science. Each week we will focus on one chapter. On Monday we will take a picture walk through the text and discuss as well as make predictions. On Tuesday, we will read the chapter again and discuss and then complete a cloze activity comprehension check.
