Dear parents:
In this challenging situation , we, the staff at Oakman, are working hard to assist our students in mitigating any learning loss, and doing our best to keep things in their normal pace as if school days are on! We understand that everyone is under some kind of pressure and have a different way of dealing with this challenge. We will continue to offer our students the best possible opportunities to learn and stay mentally connected. We also understand the huge role you play as a parent/Guardian. Without your guidance, most of these learning opportunities will serve as a time filler only. We encourage you to stay positive and to help your child/ children do the best they can when it comes to digital learning. Remember that your children will look up to you as the sound of reason in these confusing times! Let’s work together to help our students, your children, stay ahead of the game and if not ahead, let’s keep them as close as possible. This only works if we do this as a team – one part is school (digitally) and the other part is home (you guiding and assisting your children through remote learning). Please know that we’ll post start an end time for the digital work to motivate students to complete not to stress you. We also will give our students a chance to catch up with the work. All of the work will have an end date and time of Sunday at 8:00PM. May God help us all in navigating through this challenging and difficult time. And please remember that we can overcome this by practicing safe measures and by helping each other !
Best regards,
Oakman Staff

Important Information Regarding Remote Learning
Happy Sunday!
Before our week starts of online learning I wanted to explain each activity and what is expected of students during this unfamiliar time to all of us.
Math:
Zearn Lessons will be given daily. My hope is that each student will log onto Zearn and complete 1 lesson each day. The lessons have been changed to Module 5, which is the module we are currently working on. It deals with fractions. Once they complete Lesson 1 the following day they will complete Lesson 2 and so on. Every Friday will act as a catch up day. If you could not get to a lesson you can complete it on Friday as make up.
Reading:
Each day there will be an assignment on Study Island. It will correlate with what we have been working on in school. Each assignment has 10 questions and they must get 80% to complete it. The assignments will be open from 8:30-3:30 each day.
Readworks:
Every Monday I will post a ReadWorks article that they can work on throughout the week. This will consist of a short passage with questions to answer after. They will be due on Friday night. If for some reason your child is not enrolled in our ReadWorks class here is the code: AQJG47
Writing:
There will be a writing prompt given Monday – Thursday. My expectation is that each student writes 5-7 sentences responding to the prompt. They will use complete sentences, capital letters and correct punctuation. Once they have completed the writing they can take a picture of it and send it on ClassDojo or send me the document on a Google Document. Each day I will share a few on ClassDojo so everyone can enjoy eachothers hard work! Friday will act as a catch up day for writing as well.
Spelling:
Monday the students will receive their spelling words. They can practice them throughout the week. On Friday, just like we would in school, they will be given a test. Parents or older siblings please test them on their words. When they finish it they can grade it themselves and send me a “Spelling Test Selfie” on ClassDojo!
Social Studies:
Every Monday and Wednesday a Social Studies assignment will be on Study Island. There will be 10 questions and it will be open from 8:30-3:30.
Science:
Every Tuesday and Thursday a science assignment will be on Study Island. There will be 10 questions and it will be open from 8:30-3:30.
As always reading 30 minutes from their reading bag is essential!
Other sites that can be used in addition:
Epic until 4:00PM
Rainbow e (edmentun through Clever)
Math-a-thon to practice math facts on iLearn
Prepdog.org
Our special teachers will also be posting activities for your children to do, here are their blogs for you to stay updated.
Coach Southers: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/southers/
Mrs. Hansen: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/hansend/
Mrs. F https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/oakmanmusic/
Mrs. Grucz: https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/gruczl/
This will be a learning experience for all of us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask questions. I will be readily available during the day to help! The expectation that all teachers have is that your child is still working on school work during school closures daily.
Learning at Home
Hello Parents!
We are all aware that the Governor has shut down all schools across Michigan. Knowing this information the Dearborn District has come together with a plan of action for our students.
There will be a daily morning message on ClassDojo and my personal blog with activities for your child to do each day. Please check ClassDojo every morning to see what is assigned. Everyday will be about 2 hours of school work. This does NOT mean they should sit in front of the computer screen for 2 hours. For example, have your child do 30 minutes of work and then take a break. I will be posting videos about different exercises and brain breaks. Please use these daily!
The daily activities will consist of:
Study Island assignments
Daily Writing Prompts
Spelling Tests
ReadWork Articles
Benchmark Books Online
Reading 30 minutes
Zearn Lessons Daily
These assignments will begin on Monday, March 16th.
It is important for our students to continue reading and writing during this time of no school. Try to talk with your children about what activities they are doing each day. Keep those brains working. 🙂
If you have any questions, as always, please reach out. Thank you for ALL you do!!
