A look at what have done….. as well as a look ahead!

Hello Families!!!

Happy last week of winter! I am so very excited to begin another week of learning, laughter, and fun!

Take a look at the fun we have been having!

We are learning with a word work activity! This word work activity uses bottle cap letters to spell our heart words!
This is a partner word work activity called Pop for Sight Words!
This is a word work activity where we get to play a memory match game to find the matching pictures that rhyme……like house and mouse!
This is a word work activity where we get to use stamps to stamp and write our heart words!
We made the racoon family from the Wishtree! We made You, You, and You!
We are learning about opossums. One of the characters we are reading about in the Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate, is Flashlight, along with his family! He is an opossum! We used gray paint and puff balls attached to clothespins to paint the furry bodies for our opossums!
We worked in teams as together we sorted facts about opossums onto a tree map.
Here are our adorable opossums just hangin’ around in the room! ๐Ÿ™‚
We worked in partners to roll, find, and color the words from the -in family!
We read “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss!!! We loved it so much! We decided to make and try green eggs and jam!
We graphed our opinions about green eggs and jam after trying them of course!
Some of us liked the green eggs and jam! Some did not! ๐Ÿ™‚
We enjoyed trying a new food!
“Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss read aloud on YouTube
We read “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish” by Dr. Seuss. We then rolled dice and used only a red and blue crayon to create a drawing to show what we rolled. We used an addition math sentence to explain our drawing! (ex. 5 red fish+3 blue fish= 8 fish.)
During engineering time, this friend used the materials to create, the crow named Bongo, from the “Wishtree” by Katherine Applegate!
This week we will be learning to blend, read, spell, and write the words from the -op family. Our spelling test will be on Friday! Please help your child practice and feel confident for the test! ๐Ÿ™‚
This week we will also be talking about sneaky leprechaun shenanigans! We will make our very own traps to catch a sneaky leprechaun in class.

This week we will also be learning about rainbows. We will create rainbows as well. In addition to that, we will be learning about narrative writing. We will write our own fictional narrative stories to tell about a time when we found a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We will tell what we did with the gold. We will also continue learning in unit 7 of Benchmark that focuses on; Why do we celebrate people and events?. In this unit we are reading informational texts about people that are celebrated for their accomplishments. We are learning to ask and and answer questions about the text as well as make personal connections to the text. We are also learning new vocabulary.

This week’s power letter is the letter Ll. We will practice finding words that begin with l and words that end with l. In math, we are working with word problems and using drawing and number bonds to solve the problems. We are also learning how to decompose numbers less than 10.

Please remember, Friday, March 18th is a half day! The first day of Spring is Sunday, March 20th!!!

Thank you for all you do!

Love, Ms. Mehrhof
