Elevators, along with all of technology, have evolved a lot.The elevator has gone from a simple platform taking people from one floor to the second. Where now it is taking people from the lobbies of hotels, to their penthouses 300 feet up. Elisha Graves Otis invented the elevator, and presented it at the American Institute Fair. He rode the elevator to a great height, while many stood in awe he ordered the lift cable cut and it stayed in place.
Abbass Karnib, an 8th grader at Unis Middle School who has used the elevator due to an injury to his hip, said that if he was at the fair where the elevator was presented, he’d think he was apart of a revolutionary achievement. He also mentioned that he would test the first elevator with protection and would only go to a maximum height of 15 feet. He says that if elevators didn’t evolve from what they used to be he’d take the stairs. “Elevators have evolved extremely, they have gone from no walls surrounding, to an escape door and many safety precautions. Abbass stated ”The elevator company named after Otis, has over 22 thousand mechanics operating over 2 millions elevators.
Mohamad Dabaja, a student who has used the elevator because he had broken his leg. He mentioned that while using the elevator he discovered many things about it because he used it every day. He had questions, like with the first elevator, how did he figure out how to implement things into it? He says that he wouldn’t trust the first elevator, however he would test it with a pay or incentive. He mentions that even though elevators have evolved a lot they still have a lot of improvements left, like the rest of advanced tech. “Without the elevator, broken or injured legs would take longer to heal.”The safety hoist which was implemented into the elevator dates back to the day of the Egyptian Pyramids, however it wasn’t in the elevator till 1852.
Elevators have evolved without a doubt, however with the help of all elevator companies elevators will continue to advance with time. When Otis invented the elevator he had never thought it would come this far.
