Opinions About Gay Marriage

Tameka and Lynja Woods are a gay, married couple that had to leave the United States and go to Windsor, Canada to get married. At the age of 9 years old, Tameka figured out that she is attracted to the same gender. She never thought about getting married to somebody from the same gender until she met Lynja in high school and decided to get married. According to Tameka, “We shouldn’t have had to go to Windsor, Canada to get married; equal marriage should be allowed in all states people for all people.”

According to Fox News, Jayne Rowse and her partner, April Deboer, protested recently in front of the federal court in Detroit, Michigan. They feel that being allowed to get married only in fourteen states and being banned in thirty-five others is not fair to them. A trial date has been set by Judge Bernard Friedman for February 25, 2014 regarding the legality of gay marriage. Gay marriage will be banned at least until then.

Rhonda Lancaster, a middle school teacher, said that “Everybody should have somebody to love. In Russia, gays have been beaten, and elsewhere they have been banned from the Olympics. This is not fair and people should have their freedom around the world, not only in the United States.”

Not everyone agrees that gay marriage should be completely allowed. Hussein Taha, for example, a forty-seven year-old pharmacist, said, “Gays shouldn’t be allowed to get married at all. It‘s a sin and God created different genders so we can get married and reproduce.”  Many conservative Americans who agree with his views.

Currently, people from Russia are being jailed and murdered for being homosexuals.  The Russian government does not sympathize with gay people and feel that they are breaking morality laws.  Homosexuals are looked at with disgust by most Russian people.  To stay safe many gay Russians are in secret societies.

Data taken from fifty student interviews show at Unis Middle School many think that gay people are disobeying God’s orders. Many of these students think of homosexuality as a sin for religious reasons and admit they were raised to be against it. However, one student named Mahdy Taleb said, “People should be free to do whatever they want and it should not be our business. Even though I think it’s a sin that they are going to pay for, I am not them, so why should I care?” Another student, Habib El Fakih, disagreed with Mahdy Taleb and said, “Gay people shouldn’t be allowed to get married. What’s happening in Russia is not fair, but they are asking for it.”

As you see there is a lot of different opinions about gay marriage. There is a lot of people against it and many people for gay marriage. Decisions are still being made in courts. Michigan recently allowed gay marriages.  The legislators appealed the decision a few weeks  later partially due to violence against gays. You’ll never know, maybe tomorrow gay marriage would be allowed in your state or country.

  1. If someone wants to love someone guy to guy woman to woman why should it have to concern anyone that not even I that relationship and what every you think that god does not what this your very wrong. Being gay is a Chemical unbalance so why is anyone saying that it’s wrong that your body and mind thinks differently. If someone was born deaf is it there fault there ears don’t work so why is it that someone has to pass a dumb law for people to get married. And in the Quran it says gay action are haram not getting married or loving the same gender.

  2. I love this story and the topic is very contrivesual. When Ms. Lancaster said that people who are gay were beaten in Russia, I remembered hseeing a story about this when I was on Facebook. In my opinion, it should not matter who you love. You can’t choose who you fall in love with or what gender you are atracted to. Everybody talks about hate, but they never seem to think that violence to gay people counts. WE all belong to one human race. It shouldn’t matter what sexuality, race, religion, skin color, etc. you are. We are all born human beings and we should start treating eachother like that. Same-sex marrige should be allowed everywhere. People should be treated equally everywhere, like Ms. Lancaster said. I love how you included a couple of the same-sex. That was a great idea to include someone’s story, because it causes you to start thinking about the topic and think is this right? Should everyone be treated equally?

  3. I think its wrong for people to be judged on what gender they like. people should be able to feel comfortable with their decisions and should choose the road that leads to their happiness. I think gay marriages should be legal everywhere and nobody should get judged. I don’t know anyone that is gay but i’m not against it and I don’t think its wrong.

  4. I think that its completely wrong for people to get judged on what gender they like. People should feel comfortable and happy with who they are with. For someone to get beaten for choosing something that makes them happy is disgusting. I think gay marriage should be aloud everywhere and people should feel free and not get judged. We are all human does it really matter what path we choose. I think this was a great topic choice and a learned a lot of new things.
