Zaman International Community Center, located in Inkster Michigan. When was the first time you donated to the homeless? Probably along time ago or maybe even days ago. There was a time where I went to help the homeless it was a really exciting experience because they all had smiles on their faces and were telling us their stories and thanking us. My uncle went to the warehouse which is where they get the food and get the address for where the homeless people stay.
Inside the warehouse there were a couple workers they showed me around. They had racks of food, furniture, home goods, and a kitchenware. On the topic of Zaman, Monica Boomer a worker from Zaman international has said things about how she feels about delivering food to the homeless, “I feel that it is a very positive experience for everyone regardless of their age, because it allows you to get to know the people in our community and understand that things like hunger and homelessness can affect people locally as well as elsewhere, so knowing it’s happening right next door to you is i think very important”.
Zaman has been open for almost 20 years now. How it has gotten better over the past years? Monica a worker from Zaman international said, “we came to learn how it is best to serve people better for our clients to have a choice rather than us to just pick these things and give it to them, as much as possible. We like to bring them here and they can go to our food pantry so they make their choices for themselves. As we keep going the program keeps improving.”
How many people come to volunteer over the past years? Abigail DeMars a worker from Zaman said, “this past month we’ve had probably about 350 total, because we have had a big event, but everyday there would be about 10 plus people here. Weekly we have about 50-60 people here, we have them working with sewing, working in the pantry, and tutoring”.
Our community has lots of people helping out and working with other individuals. Our community has gotten better and the less fortunate Appreciate what we do.
“I think these workers are doing something very good, and I think this is really helping to better our community.” said Leann Bazzi a 8th grader at Unis Middle School. Leann has a good idea of what these workers do and how they help. Now in our society there are lots of people know volunteering to help the homeless according to Zaman.
