Trends affect society from different perspectives. They lead to differences and values in culture, social behaviors, public opinion, and even personal identity. Economic Trends are behind market demand, which shapes businesses and industries. Sometimes, they help the industry, and sometimes, they tear it down little by little.
Trends can do a lot of good for our society and world. They give access to new cultures, talent, and markets. One of my interviewees, Ibraheem M has said, “ I’ve bought a lot of clothing based on what the trend is. “ Trends can also be very fun to do. Trends mostly appear to be on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. When new trends come out, everyone hops onto the trend because of the hype and how fun it is. Trends also change people’s styles and looks.
People sometimes change their hairdos, makeup, clothes, and more. An Interviewee of mine, Roquya H, commented, “ Trends changed me in many different ways, one of them being my choices in clothing.” Trends make people less picky, they just choose what other people wear. People also like trends because they also feel a part of something. Nobody likes to feel left out or different than everyone else. It also allows other people to try new things, like hobbies. Trends also boost people’s companies. In all, Trends can boost people’s self-esteem and confidence, allowing them to try new hobbies and have fun.
Trends can even be good for people’s health. But there’s also a bad side to trends a lot of people don’t know about. One of the reasons trends can be bad at times is that they come and go. Once you buy or get something trendy, your money is gone. When the trend is over, you’ll be stuck with whatever you have and probably get rid of it or never use it because it isn’t a trend anymore. An example of this is one of the current trends. One of the trends right now is Cheetah print items. They’ll be here for a couple of months, and in a couple of months, they’ll be out of style, which means your items will have no purpose/use.
Another negative thing about trends is that they pressure people into doing and buying stuff they don’t always want but they get it to fit in. They end up buying stuff they don’t want or need and miss out on something that they could have had that they wanted but missed out on. It also makes people feel left out or insecure about stuff that they don’t have because others do. Another one of my interviewees, Mona A, replied to this, saying Sometimes when I don’t have something that’s trending and a lot of other people do, it makes me feel left out.” In addition, it makes people unoriginal and all the same.
Trends can also affect the government. People don’t know that trends can influence the government in many different ways both bad and good. It makes people think differently about our countries’ elections and other important concepts. They also sometimes give out fake information that people might believe.
To summarize, trends are positive and negative for our environment and world. It can either boost people’s confidence or lower it even more. It can also affect people’s
