World War I was a huge and deadly war that lasted from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918. It was a tragic time that caused millions of people to die. A lot of people think Serbia started all this trouble because they helped the man who killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand from Austria-Hungary. His assassination is seen as the event that kicked off the war. But then you have Austria-Hungary, who wanted to fight Serbia in any way possible, using the assassination as an excuse to go to war.
Many people still talk about World War 1 to this day. I asked Nawal Ali to discuss what you knows about World War 1. Nawal Ali said, “ World War 1 was the first war in the United States. World War I started in 1914 and ended in 1918. It was very tragic that a lot of people died.” Nawal still fears that there will be a deadly war just as fatal as World War I.
Russia also got involved early on, making everything even more tense. Germany had a role in the war, too. They backed Austria-Hungary completely, giving it a “blank check.” This made Austria-Hungary feel confident about acting aggressively. Then, when Germany invaded Belgium, which was supposed to be a neutral country, Britain was dragged into the war and declared war on Germany on August 4, 1914.
Many people were scared of their houses exploding. You can hear gunshots, booms, families getting ripped apart, and explosions. I asked Reem Munaser how they would feel about the possibility of World War 3. I asked to see what people nowadays think about the possibility of another war. Reem Munaser said, “I would feel petrified and terrified. I would hope my family wouldn’t get drafted into the war”.
Before the war even started, there were already problems between countries. For instance, there were these Moroccan crises where Germany acted tough against France and Britain, making everyone even angrier. When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, it escalated things.
Even though Serbia agreed to most of Austria-Hungary’s demands, they wouldn’t let in investigators, which was the final straw. The assassin, Gavrilo Princip, was part of a group called the Black Hand, and his actions set off all these rivalries that had been simmering for a long time. At first, Russia didn’t want to jump into the conflict, but there were so many historical issues that made it complicated.
Ultimately, World War I was a chain reaction where one thing led to another, with Germany being a key player in making everything worse. I asked Hussain Alshaibani how he would feel if World War I had happened in the present day. Hussain said, “There probably would not have been a war and they would have talked it out and it would be peaceful”.
In conclusion, World War I was one of the worst wars ever. It caused a lot of pain and suffering, and millions of families lost loved ones. The destruction was massive, and it changed everything for so many countries. This war showed us how fragile peace can be and how quickly things can go wrong if countries don’t find ways to work things out. It reminds us that we need to focus on talking things through and finding peaceful solutions to avoid making the same mistakes again in the future.
