We’re All One

Do you think everyone’s equal? There are 4 major races, White, Asian,Black, and Australoid (Southeast Asia/pacific ocean). Most people think that discrimination was mostly towards black people. Racism is when someone thinks different skin color or religious beliefs makes some people better than others. As long as humans have been around racism has been a problem no matter what equal rights everyone has.

Mrs.Issa,  a middle school teacher at Unis Middle School in Dearborn Michigan says,”The motivation of racism comes from ignorance. People don’t know enough about you and your background or religion. Therefore, they go with what the media says and the media is not a really good depiction of who we really are.At least when it comes to Middle Eastern people, and that goes for any other culture.”

Every 1 in 3 canadians believe that aboriginal peoples and Muslims are the targets of discrimination. The U.S expressed lots of concerns and worries about their future when Donald Trump was elected president. Majorities of U.S Muslims now view the Republican Party and Trump as unfriendly towards Muslim Americans.Trump said that in December America should temporarily ban Muslims from entering the nation until leaders “can figure out what’s going on” Mrs.Issa says she thinks racism has increased with Trump being in control of our country, and that he’s only promoted hate which leads to more racism.”

Many people believe that racism has dwindled down since the civil war, but this is not the case. Mr.Smedley that is also a teacher at Unis middle school says, “At times it may have improved maybe during the 60’s but then in recent history I think that things have gone a little backwards with people accepting people of other colors and races.” In the 1960’s kennedy declared he would make the United States into a “great society” where poverty and racial injustice had no place. Kennedy became president on January 20,1961 and was then shot and killed in 1964. Racism seemed to have gotten better when our first black president (Barack Obama) was elected in 2009, but now with Trump motivating racism it’s gotten worse .Trump can easily be portrayed as a personal repudiation and also proof of racial regression.

“Racism is everywhere, everyday, with every culture and it’ll never go away completely,” Khodor Baydoun a student at Unis middle school says. He’s been a victim of racism when he had gone to a festival over the summer and they had charged him and his family double for each ticket and had done this because they were arab. But it doesn’t end here, arabs are not the only victims of racism. Mr.Smedley says, “when I was in elementary school I lived in a predominately black neighborhood and we used to get robbed or beat up because we were white.” Racism happens with every culture and people not accepting of one another. African Americans face a lot of racism and even when people might not know it they are being racist. 1 of every 4 African American males born in this decade can expect to go to prison in his lifetime. Police conduct investigatory stops of African American males at twice the rate of whites. Some say they think racism is mostly towards black people and that when these beliefs can’t be changed they take on the role of these harsh people.
