Every year when a team wins a championship they are invited to the White House. But this year the Golden State Warriors hesitated about going because Donald Trump is the president. Because of that he cut all invites and NBA and NFL players are arguing with him on social media.
When Hamze Baydoun a student at Unis Middle School was asked why don’t athletes want to go to the white house he stated “Most people don’t go because Donald Trump keeps on making his reputation and might ruin theirs too.” The White House was known as a privilege a reward for winning and Mr.Trump is taking that away. When I asked him why do you think the President cut the invites to the White House he said “He cut invites because people didn’t want to go and if they did not go it would make him look bad which it did so he cut them.”
As the following paragraph stated, most of the questions I asked the answer was he was not trying to look bad, so I changed up the questions. I asked Mohamed Darwiche a student at Unis Middle School, are the white house invitations being cut linked to the knees taken during the National Anthem? He said,“Yeah probably was done as a way to punish them, but i’m not sure.” I also asked him why Stephen Curry a player on the Golden State Warriors hesitated on going? He said “I think it is because of the situation he is put in with president Trump running the house.
I also asked an Walid Elfassih an 11th grade student at Fordson High School, why don’t athletes want to go to the White House he replied “Athletes don’t find themselves welcome at the White House due to the current president of the U.S.” Another question I asked him was were the invitations cut linked with the knees taken during the National Anthem he said “I honestly think President Trump was furious on the situation on the knees down during the anthem, it could have had some effect on it.”
Overall, many people stated that the whole invitation cutting situation was because of the president. But that doesn’t mean it’s all true. President Trump has not done anything to make athletes feel uncomfortable there.
