Lots of families were hurt during this… Mexico’s earthquake hit at 2:14 Eastern time. “At least 225 people were killed in the city and nearby states in the quake.” Schools collapsed with children and teachers in them.. Many families were hurt and many got through it. Many families like a local teachers’ who attends Unis Middle School. “It’s one of the biggest one we’ve experienced.” She says.
Diana Ballout, a teacher who teaches at Unis Middle School has family and friends who live in Mexico. They don’t really live as near as the area where the earthquake hit, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t experience anything. “When it first hit, I was scared, I was worried, that was the first thing I thought, I hoped nobody was hurt and I was concerned.” Mrs.Ballout added.
“The epicenter of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake was 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) east-northeast of San Juan Raboso and 34.1 miles (55 km) south-southwest of the city of Puebla.” The earthquake directly hit and shook, Mexico City. It left more than 225 people dead, 38 collapsed structured buildings. Mainly, apartment buildings. A lot of schools were also hurt in the process. Some schools collapsed with students in them. Other sources announced people like children still missing. “One week after a magnitude-8.1 earthquake struck off the southern coast of the country, killing at least 90, according to the governor of the hard-hit state of Oaxaca.”
Fatima Aoude a student who also attends Unis Middle School, gives us her thoughts on the tragic earthquake. Although she isn’t from Mexico or have any family that lives there but she has a strong opinion. When asking her what comes to mind when hearing the word earthquake, she responded with ,“I think of all the damage they make and leave affecting everything. I also think of all the deaths and the families left traumatised. I wonder how people go on with their lives after having someone close to them die because of an earthquake.”
Fatima like many, think that anyone with the ability of helping, should help and donate to charities to help repair as much damage as they could.
The tragic earthquake caused a lot of damage. People like Mrs. Ballouts family, send resources that could definitely help. “We donate money, we donate cloths and anything that is necessary.” Mrs. Ballout claims. Anyone that wants to help can donate to charities like Direct Relief & Direct Relief Foundation, Doctors Without Borders USA, Partners In Health and mercy corps. After everything the earthquake has caused, Fatima thinks that “People should do anything, anything to at least try and make a difference. Everyone should be helping each other out.”
