Ted Talk: “Why we do, What we do

The Ted Talk, “Why we do what we do”, was one of the first ted talks ever. It is also now the #6 most viewed ted talks of all times. The person who gave this Ted Talk is Tony Robbins. In the talk, Tony mostly talks about the 6 human needs. Not just that, but he talked about how growth and contribution influence our thoughts, behaviors, and actions.

Those 6 human needs are certainly, significance, variety, love/connection, growth and contribution, feelings, behaviors, and actions. By understanding these needs that shape your behavior you will be able to take control of your life. It also explained, how each person values different needs. Our values are things we care so much about. I believe that watching this Ted Talk is important because it helps others understand that people do things for a reason. Emotions can also sometimes affect us. Sometimes emotions can block a person’s ability to function correctly. The solution is to find the right emotion that will help us get through anything.

This Ted Talk also talks about how our minds can rationalize things and make them happen. You have to give and appreciate what’s driving other people. Humans also get excited to contribute once they actually get to experience it. During his talk, Tony explained how a man gave him food which is what a contribution is. After Tony experienced it he decided to contribute things himself. The problem with society now is that we think our past is our future, when that is not true.

Humans do things for various amounts of reasons. No human does something for no reason, and we need to understand that. Once you know what drives someone than you know how to meet their needs. There’s an underlying pattern for all emotions, behaviors, and actions. Us humans also need to learn how to find significance in positive ways.
