Happily consuming harmful foods
Corn syrup (CS), trisodium phosphate (TSP), and aspartame, might be foreign names to you. Well, they are ingredients used in the foods we eat every day. This is very astonishing, because they can cause many illnesses such as obesity and metabolic diseases. Realizing this, a question arises: why do food industries use these ingredients in their food?
Since corn syrup is a substitute for expensive ingredients such as sugar and sweeteners, food industries use it to save money. Also, there’s a high demand on their products, therefore, using these ingredients gives them a bigger profit and saves time. It might sound like a good reason to use these ingredients. However, the caveat is that CS can cause many severe illnesses.
According to Safa Beydoun, a nutritionist with a PhD, “Excessive intake of Corn Syrup has been linked to the increasing rate of obesity and metabolic diseases, leading to the worst health epidemic. These illnesses include non-alcoholic fatty liver, cardiovascular disease, visceral obesity, and a host of other metabolic problems.”
Hence, eating foods containing CS is extremely unhealthy and “can make you feel sluggish and less energetic.” says Zahraa Shafie, a senior in fordson high school who avoids these ingredients.
As reported by another nutritionist, Mariam Bazzi, “TSP is used as a leavening agent to retain moisture, and to maintain structure in processed food. Aspartame is sold as an artificial low calorie sweetener. It’s typically used by diabetics or as part of a “low calorie” diet because it is much sweeter, at a much lower calorie count.”
Although they might be useful, trisodium Phosphate and aspartame are ingredients that are used in foods we eat everyday, such as gum or our daily breakfast cereal. People consume large amounts of these ingredients.
This can be dangerous because if these ingredients are consumed in large amounts, they can cause illnesses. Safa beydoun also says “ When consumed in concentrated amounts, TSP can lead to irritation and possibly metabolic alkalosis .”
As we saw above, this is the worst health epidemic, and it will continue if we don’t pay attention to what we and our families consume. These deadly ingredients are causing diseases all over the world and are the main cause for obesity.
There exists many substitutions to these ingredients and, therefore, people should be aware of what they eat. Furthermore, certain companies have started using better ingredients as well as organic foods. This is the reason why we have no excuse for consuming products containing the above mentioned unhealthy ingredients

This is a very good article because it talks about deadly ingredients. this article is like a warning to people because it specifies each ingredient and what it does to hurt your body. This made me not want to have any of these ingredients. For example corn syrup can lead to a high risk of obesity.
I used to get annoyed when my mom asked look at the ingredients, but now I know I should look very carefully at the ingredients. It is very important to look at the ingredients so you can stay healthy.

I agree with this article because no one really read the ingredients that much. So no one knows what’s in the food. Companies would put anything to make the food good so people can buy the food, and the money goes to them. I also read so many stories like this.

This topic really interested me because I never knew corn syrup could cause obesity and diseases. This makes me wonder if companies know these ingredients are deadly, and if they do, why do they still use them? I wonder why can’t they use healthier alternatives for these ingredients for the sake of other people’s health? This makes me want to check the ingredients of foods before I buy them. I thought this topic was very informative and I thought it was very interesting.

Thanks to your essay Mohamed I know will never eat some thing without check the ingredients and I remember watching a video made by a nutritionist and she was talking about high fructose corn syrup and that in damages certain cells that tell the brain when your are full so the brain just turns it into fat. I also liked how you included the statement of the nutritionist because it really supports your arguments.
