Statistics say that teens who went to bed later than 11:30 P.M. on school nights and 1:30 A.M. in the summer had lower GPAs than teens who got to bed earlier. Teens who stay up late could face academic, emotional problems later on. Students are normally up due to homework, texting their friends or late sports practices. 14% of students arrive late or miss school because they overslept. A new study also shows that teens that stay up on school nights can gain weight.
28 percent of students fall asleep in school. One student who sleeps in class is Husain Dabaja, an 8th grader at Unis Middle school. Husain said he stays up until 12 to 1 A.M. on school nights. “When I stay up, I’m normally watching TV, on my phone, or I’m doing my homework.” New research finds that teens that stay up on cell phones at night are losing sleep time and sleep quality. “Sometimes I am late to school because I overslept,” he said. Staying up late could make students easily distracted at school. “I normally get around a 2.8- 3.0 on my report card.”
One person that does not sleep late is, Hanna Alfasih, an 8th grader at Unis Middle school. She sleeps at 9:30 to 10:30 P.M. on school nights and wakes up at 5:30 to 6:00 A.M. “The latest I’ve slept on a school night was 11 P.M.,” she said. “I can’t really sleep late, I don’t normally stay up on weekends either.” Kids who get enough sleep most likely will do good in school. “My GPA in school is around a 3.8 to a 4.0,” Hanna said. “I think sleep can affect a student’s education because when u get less sleep, you can’t really focus.”
Some students stay up late and have a good GPA like Fatma Jouni, an 8th grade student at Woodworth Middle School. “On school nights I sometimes sleep around 3:30 A.M. and on the weekends I sleep at 5 or 6 A.M.,” she said. “My GPA is a 4.0 so I don’t think that staying up can affect my education. I don’t let my sleep get in the way of my education because education comes first.” Fatma has never slept in class and she never overslept. “I’ve never been late to school. I go to school at 7:30 A.M. and class starts at 8 A.M.” she said. “I don’t get tired at school because I’m a very energized person so when I wake up I can’t go back to sleep. I’m wide awake.”
In conclusion, sleeping early is important for you. Statistics say staying up late can affect your education. Also, teens need about 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night to function best. Sleep is important because it can help you eat better and manage the stress of being a teen. Husain sleeps late and struggles in school, Hanna sleeps early and does good, and Fatma sleeps late and does good in school. So what do you think? Can sleep affect a student’s education?

Although, sleeping is good for you this is a hypothetical syllogism meaning this is an argument yet to be discovered. But, I even believe that sometimes a kid may get a bad GPA for sleeping late, because this may make the kid fall asleep in class.

Now this is a really catching text! Sleep does affect your foucsness in school I have people in my classes who fall asleep while the teachers are teaching the rest of the students the lesson. Ages from 10 to 17 years old need about 9 hours of sleep. Some people would have about only 4 hours or less to sleep.

In this article I agreed with Hussein Dabaja and Hanna Alfasih. They stated that if you sleep late it affect your quality sleep time and you’re tired in school. Which usually happens to me, although I go to sleep at around 10:30 – 11:00 I still end up waking up late. And I think that affects your grade. Because if you oversleep and wake up late you miss quality learning time at school.

I guess I should start to go to bed early to get a higher GPA. Every time I have a test at school my teachers always say, “get a goodnight sleep” or “sleep early tonight you have a big test tomorrow.” That’s how I can connect to this article. “Most people say the older you grow the less sleep you get.”

I feel that sleep is food for the body maybe true but i don’t think it messes up your GPA score.
So you might be a little tired it doesn’t mean that if there was a test handed to you that you studied for you would not fail but succeed.
