Fisssshing Back

A long time ago, we used blubber for candles. Which then gave us warmth and comfort. But now, we use fish for stupid reasons such as cosmetics and fashion. We have such a huge variety of animals that reproduce everyday. But as greedy humans we take advantage.

Thomas Jefferson, from www.vivavaquita.org said, ¨In the last few years, the main issue has shifted to gillnet fisheries targeting the totoaba, which is an illegal fishery!!¨Gillnet Fishing is when they grab nets and put it in the water to catch fish. This technique brings in more fish. We target innocent fish just for fun, some of the fish we catch don´t even benefit us.

Vaquitas, are one of the many victims of fishing. There are only about 97 left in the whole world. Vaquitas are such great whales, their rare facial structures are amazing. Even when they’re killed they always have a smile on their face. At least humans in the 20th century hunted fish for food because they actually needed it, but now we just take advantage.

Same thing with Totoabas, they are victims too. Most of these fish are caught while trying to hunt bigger and pricier fish. When they catch the endangered fish they just throw it back in the water like it’s nothing. The fish eventually die.

There are probably so many more fish that are dying and being extinct. You probably don’t care, but just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

Before you know it oceans will probably just be another waste land filled with dead rotting fish. So, next time when you go to that fancy restaurant and order fish, another fish is being killed at your own expense.
