Social Media Effecting Family Time

As you may know, almost all middle schoolers and high schoolers have phones. Whether it’s an iPhone or a Galaxy. Majority have Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, or Kik. Many things have changed because of social media.

Family dinners aren’t the same anymore. Dinner time used to be the time where families sit and talk to each other. Clinton Crace, a math teacher at Unis stated “We usually sit on the couch with a tray for each person and we would watch tv.” He added, “I don’t want to say  that technology has ruined our lives, but but I can say that it has taken our lives.” He has a good point because not everything about technology is negative.

“I have Snapchat, Instagram, Kik, Ask.fm, and Vine. They’re addicting because I always want to know what other people are up to.” Says Jada Yaldo a 7th grader at Unis. Jada thinks that her phone brainwashed her from lots of other things such as family, friends, being active, and school.  The problem in today’s society is that people don’t realize that knowing what others are up to isn’t important. Spending time with your family and talking to them about something as simple as how their day went is important.

Ali Nasser, Middle schooler at Unis Middle School stated “If I can go back to the time I didn’t have a phone I would.” He added, “It’s to addicting and when I’m on it, it distracts me from my family and school.”

For example, if you need help with something and nobody is there, you can use google. But it has taken over our lives because people depend on technology to do the things that people are too lazy to do.

  1. This is true that technology has ruined peoples lives. So many people and don’t have time to do any more family things and go workout. They are to busy to see what is going on in their friends lives. In my opinion phones also distract kids from their learning. Not only have phones brainwashed kids but the have also brainwashed so many adults to.
Parents are making a big mistake by giving their kids a phone.
My parents will not get me a phone yet because they are worried it will interfere with my learning and school work.
