Eighth Grade Lunch Hour (2015 – 2016)

Here at Unis Middle School, eighth graders and a hand full of seventh graders start lunch at 12:22 PM. Some students don’t mind the lunch hour. However, some students don’t like it because they are hungry until 12:22 PM.

Aya Bazzi, a student here at Unis Middle School, likes the lunch hour. She says, “I like the lunch hour because it makes the rest of the day feel much shorter.”

Manar Dabaja, another eighth grader at Unis, doesn’t like the lunch hour because it’s too late. She thinks that eighth graders should have the first lunch of the day. She states, “I think eighth graders should have the first lunch of the day so the lunchroom staff can get our lunch over with.”

According to New York Times Magazine, it is very hard for a student to focus on an empty stomach. Students that go to Yale Medical School say, “Once you’re hungry, there isn’t really anything you focus on besides the fact that you’re  hungry.”

Personally, I agree. When I get hungry in class it’s very hard for me to focus. During 6th and 7th hour I feel much more focused that during 3rd and 4th hour because I have a full stomach. But that’s just me, other people have their own opinions.

Pretty much what I’m saying is that is as eighth graders should have the earlier lunch because of the focused attention that myself and other students are lacking. Also, to avoid further unwanted discussions.
