“Let Off The Hook”

Rapist, murderers, and robbers, let “off the hook.”  But what people have not really payed attention is to the unsolved crimes. Around 211,000 crimes go unsolved each year in the US.

IMG_2968    Officer Mockbil, Unis Middle Schools resource officer, stated that “Not many homicides go unsolved every year.” Burglars go unsolved each day. Officer Mockbil also mentioned that after ten years the suspect can no longer be charged on his/her’s crime. You don’t have to be an officer to be a part of the crime. Officer Mockbil said that if he was put in the spot of the witness, he would step in to the situation. Maybe you too should stand up and speak.

Ali Baydoun, owner of MotorCity Whole Sale Produce, a market company, replied tIMG_3041hat he had many vegetable and fruit boxes stolen every week. “Sometimes it isn’t fair but that’s just reality,” Mr. Baydoun stated. With a sigh, he mentioned that only a few get caught each year. How will this be solved? Technology may not be cut out for this problem.

“It hurts because I’m here to educate.” Ms. Rhonda Lancaster, a Unis Middle School teaIMG_3036cher. She has had an unsolved personal crime in her classroom. The suspect, 20 years old, is now in jail for much worse crimes than stealing his teachers cell phone. “It was newly purchased, only two days old!” Ms. Lancaster mentioned. The witness came back three years later and told Ms. Lancaster that it was his friend who stole it.

Unsolved crimes are a huge problem in this world. Many witnesses just walk away from a problem. But, is walking away really helping you or the people in need? People and Officers around the world are trying to solve crimes everyday! Maybe you should pay a little more attention to unsolved crimes than you used to.
