Hello, Friends & Families!

Poem of the week

First Day Of School

In summertime the butterflies

dance ’round our dogwood tree.

Now summer’s done and school’s begun,

they’re fluttering in me!

Will my teacher like me?

Will I make new friends?

Will I learn to write my name

before the school year ends?

Look! There’s my teacher now-

she winks as I walk in.

And a boy with a friendly, freckled face

just flashed me a wide grin.

We learn to write the alphabet-

and it’s only the first day!

Hey, I think those butterflies

are fluttering away!

I’ll see you soon, my sunny friends,

back where you belong-

dancing ’round the dogwood tree

when summer sings its song.

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL

Poem of the week

Cow

I approve of June

Fresh food to chew

and chew

and chew

Lots of room to move around

or lie down

Not too hot

Not too cold

Not too wet

Not too dry

A good roof of sky over me and my calf

Who’s now halfway up

on new legs

He’ll want a meal real soon

Yes, I approve of June

What was Happening?

On Monday, we started the last week of school by planning for our Summer break.

We filled our “My Summer Bucket List” with our favorite fun activities that we might do.

On Tuesday, we had Howe field day. We had a great and fun time.

On Wednesday, we enjoyed a day off at home due to high temperatures.

On Thursday, we welcomed our new friend, Isra, who is going to join our family next year. Isra made a beautiful visit to our room, and she met her new friends as well as her new classroom’s staff. We also made “Happy Father’s Day” cards to celebrate “The world best dad”, our daddy.

On Friday, we ended this week with a half day, said goodbyes, took a group pictures, and we wished each other a beautiful Summer break.

Enjoy this week’s pictures:

From our family at room 107 to your family, we wish you all a happy, fun, and safe Summer break 🙂

Poem of the week

Butterfly Wings

How would it be

on a day in June

to open your eyes

in a dark cocoon,

And soften one end

and crawl outside,

and find you had wings

to open wide,

And find you could fly

to a bush or tree

or float on the air

like a boat at sea ….

How would it BE?

Poem of the Week

TreeHouse Night

At night I climbed

the ladder

to my house

up in the tree.

The moon was like

an owl’s eye

staring down at me.

The stars

were silver fireworks

that never burned away.

The robins’ bedtime

songs were done ….

they rested for the day.

I rolled up in my blanket

like a squirrel in a nest.

I knew my dreams

this cool-moon night

would be the very best.

Poem of the Week

Whale

A Whale is stout about the middle

He is stout about the ends,

& so is all his family

& so are all his friends.

He’s pleased that he’s enormous,

He’s happy he weighs tons,

& so are all his daughters

& so are all his sons.

He eats when he is hungry

Each kind of food he wants,

& so are all his uncles

& so are all his aunts.

He doesn’t mind his blubber,

He doesn’t mind his creases,

& neither do his nephews

& neither do his nieces.

You may find him chubby,

You may find him fat,

But he would disagree with you:

He likes himself like that.

Poem of the week

Maytime Magic

A little seed

For me to sow …..

A little earth

To make it grow ….

A little hole,

A little pat ….

A little wish,

And that is that.

A little sun,

A little shower …

A little while,

And then — a flower!

What was happening?

This week was very short to start a new letter, so we used our time to review the letter U. We worked on our “That’s Your Letter U” mini-book. We learned new words that start with the letter U and we colored their pictures. Urchin, unicorn, unicycle, and uniform are examples of the words that we learned this week. We also reviewed our “My letter U book” that we finished last week. We had our umbrella poster outside our room to represent an example of our letter for this week, the letter U.

For our reading comprehension, we read “Spring Stinks” book, written by “Ryan T. Higgins”. We answered “What book did we read?” question.

For math, we used “5 Little ducks” book, illustrated by “Scott Barker” to learn how to count from 1-5, and we also learned about measurements.

Our kiddos visited the Gym, the Art, and the Music. They had a wonderful time visiting those rooms. To celebrate our beautiful mothers’ day, the explorers made such a beautiful hearts and posters to share with their mama:)
