HW:

IDIOMS!

(Make sure you take the idioms sheet in class.)

If you only fill in the blanks you WON’T earn an A+ (or even an A-).

IDEAS

  • Write a few extra idiom sentences IN YOUR OWN WORDS.
  • Draw and color a few cartoon pictures to show different idioms.
  • Draft a short story that uses some of the idioms.

BW:

Your most important job today is to check StudentConnect and make sure your final grade for Report Card #3 is correct.

FINAL GRADES WILL BE SUBMITTED AND POSTED AT 3:OO P.M. TODAY!

If you think your grade is WRONG, drop a mini mini scrap into the red star so we can have a short conference about your grade.

CW #1:

Have paragraph 4 FINISHED and on your table at all times today.

CW #2:

Make one neat, colorful flashcard for the word: “controversial”.

Then show me your answer for “New Neighbor” packet question #1.

AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED BW AND BOTH CW’s, YOU ARE FREE TO CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO WORK ON. THERE WILL BE IDEAS ON THE PROMETHEAN BOARD.

HW:

100.years.1

100.years.2

DO THESE THINGS AT HOME, AND YOU WON’T HAVE TO DO THEM IN CLASS ON MONDAY! 🙂

HW#1 : “New Neighbor”

  • Make sure you first carefully read and annotate the text!
  • I will be looking very closely at your answer to #3 so please, please, please read what question mark (?) dude is telling you.

HW#2 : TDA ESSAY

  • Draft paragraph 4 on a new piece of loose leaf. Skip lines.
  • Lable using purple lead or ink.
  • You should look back at the Super CER organizer to help you.
  • Look below if you’re not sure how to start the paragraph.
  • Don’t forget to cite after the quote from the text.
  • After the quote from the text, all you have to do is write three sentences IN YOUR OWN WORDS to explain how the quote shows the theme of “protecting those who can’t protect themselves”.
  • And then write a closing sentence.

HOW TO START PARAGRAPH 4:

Correspondingly, the third detail that proves the theme of protection is evident once again in the first text, “Treehouse Guests”. The text states in paragraph 10, “We’ll

ANYONE WHO DNP (did not pass) THE QUIZ YESTERDAY MUST WRITE PARAGRAPH 3 AGAIN TODAY IN CLASS!

TDA (text dependent analysis) ESSAY PACKET DUE TODAY!

Neatly staple the following:

  • Both texts (annotated and highlighted)
  • writing prompt on loose leaf
  • paragraph 1 (introduction) on loose leaf, labeled in red
  • paragraph 2 on loose leaf, labeled in blue
  • paragraph 3 (QUIZ from Wednesday), labeled in green

If all the papers are correct, your score will be 85/100 (B).

If you simply MUST have 100 points (A+):

Type your essay on Google docs IN CLASS TODAY then share with your ELA teacher.

Make sure you …

  • Type your name in the top right corner.
  • Title: “Protect the Helpless”
  • Type each paragraph with the correct shades (red, blue, green).
  • Label each part each paragraph (use the notes tool to add stickies to the side of your google doc)
  • OR … (even better) … use different shades of red, blue, green in each paragraph to show the different parts of each paragraph.

IF YOU’RE DONE TYPING ALL THREE PARAGRAPHS, AND YOU STILL WANT ONE MORE CHANCE FOR EXTRA CREDIT, TALK TO ME.

HW:

M-STEP practice packet #5 – “New Neighbor”

YES YOU MUST USE QAR!

HINT: Do the packet in class today or get it done tonight. Then you won’t have to worry about it during spring break. 😛

GOAL:

  • Pass the quiz!
  • HINT: There is no way to skip this quiz because it is part of the M-STEP text dependent analysis (TDA) essay.

HOW TO REACH TODAY’S GOAL:

  • Open the SUPER CER organizer and read and STUDY paragraph 3.
  • Politely ask for the paragraph 3 example.
  • Read it slowly and label each part as you read (with green lead or ink).
  • Have BOTH texts out as you study.
  • It is very smart to work with a partner and DISCUSS as you read.  Plan out how you will write your paragraph 3.

QUIZ start times:

FIRST HOUR: 8:45

THIRD HOUR: 10:50

FOURTH HOUR: 11:50

SIXTH HOUR: 2:25

HOMEWORK:

We DEFINITELY cannot have an educational celebration tomorrow because the M-STEP is right around the corner and tomorrow is the LAST day of Report Card #3, HOWEVER you may bring a snack and/or drink to class tomorrow and you will probably be allowed to participate in some fun activities IF YOU HAVE MET YOUR GOALS EVERY DAY THIS WEEK AND YOU DON’T HAVE A BAD GRADE ON STUDENT CONNECT.

GOALS:

  • Look through BOTH texts and find examples of the shared theme: PROTECTION.
  • Highlight examples of the shared theme in BOTH texts.
  • Take out a new sheet of loose leaf and TRY to draft paragraph 2. You SHOULD look back at the Super CER organizer to make sure you are writing the correct information in paragraph 2.
  • HINT: Carefully read the example paragraph 2 first. When you are drafting on loose leaf, you may look back at the example paragraph 2, but try to change some of the words around into your own words – DO NOT COPY THE EXAMPLE WORD FOR WORD!
  • Underline and label in BLUE lead or ink.

EXAMPLE FOR PARAGRAPH 2:

TDA.protection.paragraph.2

SUPER CER organizer:

super.CER

GOALS:

  • Carefully read and study both texts.
    • “Treehouse Guests”
    • “Spring Discovery”
  • Neatly copy the writing prompt on loose leaf.
  • Carefully read and study the SUPER CER organizer.
  • Draft your introduction paragraph on loose leaf. SKIP LINES!

PROMPT:

The texts, “Treehouse Guests” and “Spring Discovery”, share the same theme.  What is the shared theme? Write an essay to prove and support your claim.

SUPER CER:

You just had a day off school yesterday.

Spring Break is coming up soon.

We absolutely CANNOT waste a day and have an educational celebration when we are this close to the M-STEP … HOWEVER … if you have all your work done, you could have QUIET flexible free time.

3rd hour and 6th hour did receive a good report from the substitute, so those students may drop their names in the green water pitcher to play educational basketball, football, etc.

BW:

On loose leaf, write a neat summary of “Preserving the Future”. Use #2 in your packet to help you.  KEEP THIS BELL WORK WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES TODAY.

HINT: You should FINISH Tuesday’s packet before you try this BW.

CW:

Make sure you are completely finished with Monday and Tuesday’s M-STEP packets.  Keep these with you at all times today.

Also make one NEAT flash card for one of the vocabulary words from Wednesday (the day you had a substitute). Keep this flash card with you at all times today.

HW:

Make sure you take the texts in class and keep the texts with you at all times today!

Carefully READ and ANNOTATE and STUDY both texts:

  • “Treehouse Guests”
  • “Spring Discovery”

There will be a big, 100 point test next week about BOTH these texts!
